Token - Hawk Tuah Freestyle

I have Stockholm syndrome with him and need to break it off after these latest four tracks. He has 82 songs on spotify and I would only be happy about 3 of them if he was in my family. Well is a good trauma dump although he doesn't seem to be aware that making peace with problems is the way instead of eliminating problems (seen all the way from New Problems to LOSER), A Little Different is actually just really good with no strings attached, and Thank God is pretty good with no strings ... read more

Xiu Xiu - Girl with Basket of Fruit

Music that's meant to invoke negative emotions is generally not going to be up my alley for a full-length album but this one's not even that good at it. An instrumental version of this would probably be an 80 or so in my opinion. Most of the lyrics give you the sense that it's more not what others are expressing than self-expression. Nonetheless thank you Brad

TOBACCO - Ultima II Massage
90

This is the most inconsistent record I've heard from him and 10/16 of the songs are unparalleled in what they do. The rest (video warning attempts, eruption, lipstick destroyer, self tanner, blow your heart, and beast sting) range from great but outdone by himself (eruption/lipstick destroyer) to just not very out there for this album. For the entire duration of this thing, it will be demented it the best way possible. No one else can do anything even close to this sonically and no one can wrap ... read more

This makes me want to rate all other music at least five points lower

Eminem - Houdini

Here's a spin on DEHH's report cards:

Substance - 0 - This is my biggest issue with the whole song, it says nothing but "I care about everything I shouldn't" and will distort your worldview if you listen for too long

Message - 2 - It could be a bit worse (demondice) and it could be a lot worse (g block, all we know is redrum; hypnotize, they do what I say). Either way, satirical discrimination comes from the same brain as real discrimination and ends up having the same effect ... read more

Drake - Family Matters

Music is a boundless, universal language that is able to express any emotion to any degree. Since the dawn of time, music has given immeasurable benefits to humanity, whether it be emotional, spiritual, physical, financial, or anything else. Luckily, throughout history, we've been able to repay music for all that it's done and have burgeoned our relationship with it through endless invention. So much so that in the present day, anyone with any amount of material wealth can actualize whatever ... read more

Kendrick Lamar - meet the grahams
100

Kendrick has done two larger-than-life things for the first time in history:

1. Gatekeep hip-hop to any degree in 2024.

2. Inflict positive impact on hip-hop culture by participating in beef. From a broader perspective, this is an ugly song that perfectly represents what positive conflict is all about. Attempting to change bad to good, then attempting to distance good from bad after the bad refuses to change. This pushes the idea of limitless positivity. Even incredibly heavy confrontation ... read more

still best diss ever

NR

His most original song so far, and he made Fearmonger

Drake - Push Ups

Kendrick = Manute Bol actually wanting to fight The Fridge
Drake = Glass joe acting like he's 99-1
Cole = Usain Bolt retiring and denouncing sprinting after his foot injury in 2014

Alex G - Beach Music

This isn't an album that teaches you anything, but there's going to be something new in your life that this album applies to emotionally whenever you want to listen to it.

Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly
90

Although it is incredibly good at what it does, I do have a couple of issues with what it does, mainly that the lyricism is very overcomplicated. Overcomplicated lyrics often seem like dense or deep lyrics, but overall, this album says a lot less than DAMN, which is a much more straightforward (or backward) listen. The overarching theme of this album in particular is "american institutions are racist and we should love ourselves regardless" and not a ton more. No amount of literary ... read more

Kendrick Lamar - Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers
98

It has a couple of small issues (dramatic singing about eating ass/kodak on silent hill not really being related to much) but all in all it's legitimately a life-changing album, more than I can say about virtually any other piece of music. I can't say much that hasn't already been said, but I do encourage anyone to listen to some of these piano sections (most notably the rich interlude) and appreciate them more.

Might actually be the best album

quickly, quickly - The Long and Short of It

Some of the best sounding music out. If next thing matches this thing, world is fixed

EDIT: The live versions of these songs are way better and the next album is going to be crazy good

Mk.gee - Two Star & The Dream Police

This feels like getting tired during the day because you woke up early

Ubi - DEAL OR NO DEAL
90

This is pretty much the best this sound is gonna get. Mike Summers has been on a crazy hot streak ever since he changed his name from Seven, and Ubi sounds better than he ever has imo. I'm getting hints of each and every CES album in his vocal inflections which is crazy to say because he sounds like an entirely different person compared to something like 4 Nothin' or Pieces. Those were raw as fuck by the way so it's a very good thing.

As far as Mike is concerned, the echoes on the vocals ... read more

Quadeca - SCRAPYARD

Pretty damn revolutionary honestly. So many genres done insanely well, all by one person, all singular for his discography, mostly singular for music in general. Only a 98 instead of an 100 because I MAKE IT LOOK EFFORTLESS is obviously not that good. Not any less because these are all experiments and they all somehow worked better than most of my favorite artists in these various genres.

edit [98>95]: IDMTHY is that much better than other music

Black Moth Super Rainbow - Panic Blooms
100

BMSR has consistently had the best sound design I've ever heard since 2004, and this album definitely elevates it. New Breeze and Aerosol Weather are the best examples of the falling-apart sound in this album, and Mr. No One is the best example of the cleaner sound. These two sounds are perfectly balanced across 16 tracks with the perfect amount of vocals. Not one note feels out of place for 42 minutes straight, making this a rare album where I have no nitpicks. This is singular and will likely ... read more

Aesop Rock - Integrated Tech Solutions

I'm unable to pick a least favorite song, and my candidates for it are never the same twice. I could get a dissertation out by breaking down any select four lines from this album and still miss one meaning, three literary devices, and two different interpretations. Steak sauce production and mixing as well, don't sleep.

EDIT [100 > 95]: The choruses, mainly Solid Gold's, lower the listenability a little bit.

"I forgot to reply, it's not literal but he does make a few songs a lot worse than if Danny was just on it the whole time, mostly because he basically uses one flow for the whole album. Obviously the subject matter isn't too important on an album like this but he's still definitely a lot less funny than Danny on this as well. He has pretty formulaic lines (i.e "fuck you neighbors I feel like ___"), so much so that there's multiple instances of him basically repeating himself just from this album. I haven't listened to anything else from him so I don't know if he does this normally or not but it's pretty noticeable to me on here"

"Your Rabbit Stew explanation makes 1000% sense to me. I knew there was something to it cause no one really thinks of Rabbit Stew out of nowhere, puts it in a song, then names the song that. Especially in this album cause all of the titles are super relevant"
