It's a solid listen but in a really predictable way. Neither Nas or DJ Premier have lost their talents and abilities (if you aren't counting the crypto bars) but you'd expect an album with these two names attached and a track titled NY State Of Mind Pt. 3 and an AZ feature to be so much better. There's very little to either get excited over or be repulsed at outside of the beats on Pause Tapes and NYSoM Pt 3 being complete ass and the disappointment factor that an ... read more
A lot of parts of this album seem to flip-flop between being a really interesting change of pace in the scope of MF DOOM's discography and being the most forgettable, which feels odd since DOOM has always been extremely consistent with both the quality of his output and his performance. He undoubtedly has a lot of memorable lines and verses on songs like the iconic Guv'nor and the very topically focused GMO and Winter Blues, but he sounds completely awkward on the beats that vary from ... read more

Musically a lot better than pretty much everything he's put out after Donda, but that really isn't saying anything. It sort of feels like Ye is trying to execute a bunch of the same types of sounds he used to be so beloved for to prove he's still got it except it's a lot more uninteresting, unadventurous and unpolished. Not the worst beats ever, I guess? A good chunk of them are really generic but there are some highlights like the first 3 tracks, Plot Twist and the Conductor beat near the end. It just kind of sucks that a ton of songs have multiple beats that are not all equally good so the whole track gets diluted. It's an okay listen if you are not really paying attention, but that's a pretty bad metric to look at music by.
Drake is only a compelling musical figure on this album if you've ... read more
