36 Seasons may not be Ghostface’s greatest project, but it is another notable addition to his extensive body of work. Rapping alongside Kool G Rap and AZ for the bulk of the album is certainly a treat, and the two have their own moments of glory. Production, on the other hand, simply does not hold on to the lyrical dynamism present between Ghost, Pharoahe Monch, AZ and G.
With 36 Seasons, Ghostface Killah tries to recreate the same narrative-based formula he worked with on his last album, but with only a portion of the appeal.
Another narrative-driven, live-band supported outing from the Ghostface Killah himself, repeating the formula that was so successful on 12 Reasons. The transition from that record to this one is a bit shakey, though - the consistency here isn't as good as 12 Reasons, the tone isn't as unique, and the worst song (Pieces To The Puzzle) is worse then anything on 12 Reasons. Ghost saw the positive reception of Twelve Reasons To Die and RAN straight to the bank. 36 Seasons is another installment in what I label as the "Ghostface x live instrumentation" era. Whereas Twelve Reasons To Die is a lot more theatrical and grandiose, 36 Seasons feels a lot more laid back. The narrative and story on this album isn't really as interesting as a resurrected crime mob boss turned psycho killer, but it was intriguing enough to keep me entertained for 40 minutes. Ghostface proved as to why he is still one of the best rappers of all time with Twelve Reasons to Die, a revenge concept album with live soul and funk instrumentals. 36 Seasons only a year later, is a revenge concept album with live soul and funk instrumentals. It is like Ghostface tried to recapture the success of that LP right away, but without most of what made it so special. This album follows a very similar story, but is about drug kingpin Toney Starks returning from jail, only to find his ... read more

- Rock, Soul hip - hop combo

- Usually I hate when there is songs without the rapper (meth lab) but here it works for the story
