This release is packed with interesting textures.. I love the cold clinking metallic sounds, it sounds like a handful of marbles being dropped down a some kind of pinball machine and it brings a sense of unpredictability to the more lengthened guitar ambience. Despite the pillowy guitar tones, it maintains a sense of unease and high stakes (e.g. the cool repetitions and unresolved sounds of 'Eve'). I particularly enjoyed 'CRUX' and 'Eve'.
This gentle and dreamy jazz is packed with subtle and interesting textures. I love the shimmering and pensive piano work, and the stretchy trumpet notes are squeaked out on impulse. It combines elements of ambience into these really pretty jazz songs with spellbinding grace (e.g. textures on the second half of 'Redream'). It combines for a hypnotic and meditative cooling atmosphere. This is emphasised by the quiet moments on the album.
I have loved these artist's previous work together. So good! They are so in tune with each other! What I love about this music is how direct the translation of thought to sound is, it has a beautifully free flowing sound (e.g. the Saxophone stripped back to just the soft breath on 'Astral Flowers') The light jazzy samba music is satisfying, intricate, and expansive. Many of the melodies have a special picturesque beauty to them that is just magical (e.g. 'Kwere').
This experimental release is beautifully dissonant. The release is split into two main pieces: the first piece has lovely electroacoustic field recording sounds whilst the second is a patient and slow droning piece. It's thick sounds are lightened by microtonal changes and frequently changing bits of jingling and jangling. An immersive and enjoyable listen!
Wandering and winding art rock from Jonny and two T(h)oms. The looseness of it emphasised each song's journey and feeling (e.g. the slow progression of 'Teleharmonic' from a moody electronic piece towards an eerie rock song). These songs are landscape paintings. My favourite aspect of the album is it's eerie mood. This is captured well in the jammy sections (e.g. end of 'Read The Room' and the crescendo of 'Under Our Pillows'). Each member had signature standout moments whilst coming together ... read more
This screamo release packs a ton! It is exploding with short thorny passages. The project maintains a dark and moody atmospheres (e.g. lighter guitar breakdown in 'Entre las manos y el colmillo'). The riffs are interesting, creative, and culminate with intense and bristly vocals to create wonderfully skin crawling tracks (e.g. riffs in 'Division'). It sounds like a series of small fireworks setting each other off. I particularly enjoyed 'Bloated' and 'Division'.
This lush and expansive pop album takes you on an exciting journey. It is smooth and starry and slides between genres. This makes for some cool transitions e.g. 'Pensamientos Intrusivos' into 'Diosa'. The more front footed reggaeton second half is a fun way to close the album, providing a lot of energy! I particularly enjoyed '¿Cómo Así?', 'Diosa', and 'Dame Beso // Muévete'.
I enjoyed their 'winter-y' prior LP, this is a wonderful follow up! A gentle breeze seems to rustle through this album, delicately and peacefully pushing and pulling the music. 'Red-Necked Phalarope' sounds like a weeping willow tree swaying in the breeze. The light and pretty guitar work and the wispy vocals weave together into beautiful moments. The album is rooted in gentle and subtle field recordings. The moments were it melted into a richer ambient sound were made so powerful due to the ... read more
Warm and homely electronic ditties. I loved the use of guitar, it added a wholesome charm to the project and a uniqueness to the more beat driven tracks e.g. - 'Baby You're A Star'. It has a soft and familiar feeling particularly due to vocals being largely used as texture. Just a lovely friendly listen! I particularly enjoyed 'Baby You're A Star' and 'Brokenheart'.
This slick album has a wonderful star studded feature list that provides wonderful variety in the sunny atmospheres the project explores (e.g. bright vocal bah-bah's on 'All About You'). I particularly enjoyed the neo-soul sound on lots of tracks. So smooth! It all sounds grand and I particularly enjoyed 'Champagne', 'I Want You Forever', and 'Nazarene'.
This smooth and dark drill pulls from a wide range of influences and sounds. I liked the warm nostalgic atmosphere some of the tracks had (e.g. softness of 'Till We Meet Again'). The beats were engaging and varied (e.g. pitched up sample on 'Hocus Pocus' paired with tasteful 808 drum hits). I particularly enjoyed 'Time', 'Hocus Pocus', and 'Till We Meet Again'.
This music has such a wonderful character! I love how soft, subdued and quirky it can be! It starts with happy grooves with carefree birdsong like synths (e.g. 'Tolada'). It reminded me a bit of the alien looseness of Sam Gendel's music . It later arrives at a tranquil sound after a wonderful patient journey (e.g. the first track is stripped back ambient textures, the second adds playful synths, and the third adds a more prominent drum sound, the fourth adds a vocal sample) This kind of pacing ... read more
Very eclectic J-rock with some ear-catching creative aspects which really pop. The project is bursting with energy and ideas! I loved the bouncy bass guitar tone and the fun and funky synth tones. Because the project drew from so many genres, it all combined for a unique and engaging full sound. I particularly enjoyed 'Moonthief', '月光', and 'スカー'.
Raw and fun indie rock. It is characterised by wiry guitars and vocals that flip between sweet and bitter in an instant. It makes for fiery and exciting indie rock (e.g. different sections of 'Crack Of Your Jaw'). It had an enjoyable quiet loud flipping that reminded me of the Pixies. A very inviting and catchy project. I particularly enjoyed 'Other', 'Descenda', 'Pick At Your Face', and 'Crack Of Your Jaw'.
This is a really sweet and charming listen. The easygoing indie rock has catchy and repetitive grooves with a lot of character (e.g. guitar scoops on 'Alien'). The song's structures were straightforward which made it warm, inviting, and casual. I particularly enjoyed 'Alien', 'Bad Twin', and 'Marigold'.
This bitty electronic music is nocturnal and atmospheric. It has a lovely contrast of rumbly bass and pitched up vocal samples - e.g. 'Faith's Theme (Stay Still)'. The speedier light drum hits add an exciting energy to the music. I particularly enjoyed 'Struggle (But I'll Try)' and 'Faith's Theme (Stay Still)'.
This metal release has some great uneasy dissonance. It is a well varied project with tracks moving between softer more direct singing and growled vocals (e.g. 'Indelible'). This made the album feel dense and intricate. This all combined in my favourite aspect of the release which were the eerily spacious breakdowns and intros (e.g. intro to 'Microbial' and outdo to 'Indelible'). I particularly enjoyed 'Indelible' and 'Xylem'.
Warm and sweet ambience. I can picture waves lapping at the shore of a beach (particularly with the circling instrumentation on 'Cloudy Thoughts'). I love how stripped back it gets, its so hypnotic that time seems to move differently, with songs seeming to fly by or peacefully exist forever. I particularly enjoyed 'Cloudy Thoughts'.
This album of traditional folk song reinterpretations is powerful and magical. It explores some of the sounds on their previous LP, incorporating rich deep singing with a wide array of traditional folk instruments juxtaposed with loops and electronics. It is a sound I love! This album gets its power from the droning slowness of the music (e.g. 'Willie Crotty' ) it feels so emotional and cathartic. Particularly when emphasised by loud sections of noise or dissonance.
This is the ninth album ... read more
