Mount Eerie - Dawn
95

Each listen is more devastating than the last, good god.

Champion Trees - A Duck’s Water Off My Back

He says cave like cehv hehe

Car Seat Headrest - Twin Fantasy (Face to Face)

They were connected, at the back of their heads.

Geese - Getting Killed
90

Groovy, explosive, and always tuneful, Geese have produced one of the records of the year and prove why they are rock's next big thing. There isn't one weak link in between the 11 tracks, each with their own catchy refrain and brilliant instrumentation. For such a complex band, with so many ideas happening, you might expect songs to drag. Yet almost every idea fits into to the 3-4 minute rock song box, and this is what will make them go far. Like Radiohead before them, the ... read more

The Microphones - The Glow Pt. 2
100

It's hard to put to words what hasn't already been said about this piece of music. All I can say is that it has affected me as all great pieces of art tend to do and for that it gets a perfect 10. This is music which could have emerged from the soil and been blown across the world to find you, yet simultaneously it's one of the most human, personal, sincere albums I've ever heard. It's one of those records which you know after a few listens will stick with you for the ... read more

Racing Mount Pleasant - Racing Mount Pleasant
86

On first listen I was convinced this didn't the same as their debut. I'm glad I gave it so many chances though because I soon realised this record is deeper, richer, and more cohesive than GYF,IHB. That's not to say their first record wasn't any of those things, it's just Racing Mount Pleasant (formerly Kingfisher) have gone beyond it in every metric. Your New Place begins with a staple of RMP's sound: a gorgeous, yearning sax line. It could be argued that it takes ... read more

Headache - The Head Hurts but the Heart Knows the Truth
90

Am I weird for thinking this is fucking great?

Burial - Comafields / Imaginary Festival
84

Burial rears his shaven head to give the people what they want. This EP is a cut above most of Burial's output since about 2016 (not to say there hasn't been some great tracks!), it feels more focused and deliberate in it's structure and sample selection. While songs like Boy Sent From Above and Chemz are great in parts they do suffer from a scattered use of sounds and strange pauses. Both Comafields and Imaginary Festival actually feel like they deserve 10 minute plus runtimes ... read more

Kanye West - The College Dropout
76

It’s good but it’s no Late Registration.
Too many heckin skits :(

Kanye West - Late Registration
100

I mean if I made this I’d be big-headed too ;)
This is a PERFECT fucking album. It is Kanye’s magnum opus in my opinion, essentially every song is a classic and works within the context of the album. HE REMIXED HIS OWN MOTHERFUCKING SONG. Roses is gorgeoussss and no-one ever talks about it?? No-one talks about Bring Me Down either?? Too many bangers to name on this - WE MAJOR!!!- so I won’t name them all - MY WAY HOME!!!!.

88

The last album of not-insane Kanye absolutely slaps. It’s a behemoth of an album with some of Ye’s best verses and instrumentals of all time.

black midi - Hellfire
86

Like the best circus I’ve ever been to. Every song is composed with such detail it is almost hard to believe these guys are human.

Racing Mount Pleasant - Grip Your Fist, I'm Heaven Bound
83

This is really really goodddd. It's essentially Ants From Up There with a more soft spoken vocalist (still luv you Isaac x) and fewer immediate climaxes. It completely catches a feeling of melancholy and the yearning for someone you doesn't feel the same way to such an extent that you feel like you've watched a arty indie film about young love by the end.

Tropical Fuck Storm - A Laughing Death in Meatspace
80

The next evolution of the Drones' explosive sound brings some of the most unique arrangements you'll hear in modern rock. You Let My Tyres Down is a real highlight and one of the best songs I've ever heard.

The Drones - Feelin Kinda Free
83

If you like Black Midi, you will like this record and Tropical Fuck Storm. The avante garde guitar work at play here is flawless and the soundscape they manage to build on songs like "Then They Came For Me" and "To Think That I Once Loved You" are unique in how their harshness works so well. Gareth is one of the most underrated lyricists of our time!

King Creosote - From Scotland With Love
82

Kenny is an endless reservoir of both beautiful and haunting tunes. With poignant subject matter to match, From Scotland With Love is a soulful tribute to his homeland.

Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra - He Has Left Us Alone But Shafts of Light Sometimes Grace the Corner of Our Rooms…
86

There are three main motifs throughout this project which weave in and out of gorgeous violin, piano, and occasionally percussion arrangements. 13 angels is tragically beautiful, its title is a perfect image of the soundscape: weeping angels set to somber violin. The lyrics on Movie (Never Made) are so well written good lord - "The wind called out my grandfathers name". "The towers had fallen" mixed with the religious themes on this song, is a profound premonition of the ... read more

Geordie Greep - The New Sound
91

Greep's maximalist solo project is not just inspired by Latin jazz and funk, it completely embraces all of the bells and whistles that come with the genre. The sound of this record is immaculate; oblique yet warm. The lyrics are funny, sad, and clever and each little story paints a vivid picture of the type of men we are dealing with across the record.

Burial - ANTIDAWN
80

Possibly the slowest burn of any album I've ever listened to. Initially, you'll feel uncomfortable in the space Burial creates but over days and weeks you'll find yourself singing a yearning motif like "Lying in your loving arms" or "All I really want is youuuu". I don't think this should be treated as a Burial project to simulate "that feeling walking back from the club" but rather as a dramatic landscape painting where details pop in and out ... read more
