DECEMBER CHALLENGE DAY FOURTEEN:
Genuinely one of the most beautiful renditions of an already legendary song. The Xiu Xiu cover of Fast Car was my favourite cover of the Tracy Chapman song but this whole set takes it to another level. The way this song just blurs out over time tells such a priceless story about the original song which got commercialised and the tradgedy behind got completley forgotten. This cover does the original so much justice. I need to get into more Jim O'Rourke, ... read more
DECEMBER CHALLENGE DAY THIRTEEN:
This entire live set was one whole acid trip. Man I love Miles Davis. His older cool jazz oriented stuff is some of my favourite music of the 20th century and probably my favourite pieces of jazz ever next to some Coltrane greats but when Davis diverged into funkier, bassier, fusion-ier work, that's when his music starts to become something different. His early 70s run of jazz-fusion classics like Bitches Brew, Live-Evil, On the Corner, Get Up With It, ... read more
DECEMBER CHALLENEGE DAY TWELVE:
Some nice latin-acoustic rock, nothing truly incredible. Pretty bland and samey at times. Should've had a Gucci Mane feauture.
DECEMBER CHALLENGE DAY TEN:
This Mix is why I wake up everyday. NTS MIX is a really consistent Sample Rap based compilation/mix that includes cloud rap legends like Polo Perks, Black Kray, Slimesito etc. Every Beat, Every (most) lyrics, Every transition is so polished and well made, it's truly beautiful. It's art.
DECEMBER CHALLENGE DAY NINE:
You're telling me a Jug made this Band ? Jug Band is a genre where a big ol' jug is used as some sort of substitute for a bass instrument, or just for funny backing instrumentals. Unfortunately, funny =/= good. So when Dave Van Ronk and The Ragtime Jug Stompers go around making fart noises into a jug, that usually turns my smile upside down. However, the first song genuinely surprised me when I first pressed play, with The Ragtime Jug Stompers using the ... read more
DECEMBER CHALLENGE DAY EIGHT:
Aaahhh, The Beatles. Listening to most their best projects a few times, The Beatles were a band I never really fell in love with. Every one of their songs just felt so boring to me. I kinda understood why everyone else loved them, them being one of the most revolutionary bands of all time, and maybe it's cuz I'm getting older, or I've started drinking my teas and coffees black, but I'm slowly understanding the beauty behind The Beatles. I mean ... read more
DECEMBER CHALLENGE DAY SEVEN:
I feel like this goes without saying with any soundtrack but simply listening to an OST compared to playing a game and listening to its OST are veryyyyy different things. Like, the Mother 3 OST sounds good and all, has some phenomenal songs even, but I'm just not immersed. From what I've heard from others, and reading others' reviews, the game sounds really good and the soundtrack matches the vibe perfectly. Sadly, I'm not that big of a gamer ... read more
DECEMBER CHALLENGE DAY SIX:
The Yume Nikki soundtrack is one of those records where you've heard more songs from it then you realise. For instance, I've never heard of Yume Nikki before making the list for the December challenge and yet I recognised songs like "Snow world" and "Barracks" almost immediately, amongst others. I think that's really when you know you've made a banging soundtrack, when you recognise songs from it without having to play it. In ... read more
DECEMBER CHALLENGE DAY FIVE:
Talk Talk is a band that had to take a while to grow on me, at first I thought their music is lame, then I just felt kinda neutral about it, and now I really like them and understand the hype. Spirit of Eden really shows their ethereal and mature side. If Talk Talk wanted to be safe, they could've broke down into a synth or an electric guitar solo for each song to appease the general public, knowing their history in more popular genres like new wave and ... read more
DECEMBER CHALLENGE DAY FOUR:
I don't really know how to start this review. Amantes del Dolor isn't an album that I hated but it also didn't wow me like his later collab project "Skydrvg 1.0" does. I mean, for it's time, it's pretty high quality stuff, especially in a scene that leaned more towards the jazz side which can really be heard here, but outside of it's classic sample flips and intruiging lyricism, that's about it. Now, you could say ... read more
this album is about government greed, corruption, and labubus... i don't know which one is worse
DECEMBER CHALLENGE DAY THREE:
Not the hugest fan of Nu Metal so I already knew going into this that I wouldn't 100% love it. What I didn't know, is the more alternative parts of this album are so beautiful, the intro and outro were genuinely some of my favourite parts of the album although, whenever I did hear some Nu Metal adjacent parts I did kinda roll my eyes over and go "yeah this is lame." However, this is a really good transition album into Nu Metal. Probably not the ... read more
DECEMBER CHALLENGE DAY TWO:
Probably one of my favourite movies of all time. I remember when I first watched it, the one sax motif really pissed me off cuz it played like 10 times during the entire movie but it's really stuck with me after a while, especially knowing how well it fits into the themes of the movie and shit and also cuz its a sexy ass mf'ing saxophone. This soundtrack is part dark ambience, part cool-smooth jazz. An incredible movie with a precious soundtrack. Defo ... read more
DECEMBER CHALLENGE DAY ONE:
I'm not gonna go crazy with my reviews for the december challenge stuff cuz I aint that hungry anymore but i'll drop my thoughts and stuff in here.
I really enjoy the solo beatles shiz over their group projects, I don't really know why, but this sounds so much better than any beatle album I've ever heard. Super cosy and the production is phenomenal. I could see myself coming back to this. Grandpa Flapjack will have this in heavy rotation in the ... read more
