Incredibly hazy, sample laced digicore.. club music? Trap music? Yeah defining this one is very much obsolete, It's like if someone on the more adventurous side of the hyperpop community (think of a kmoe, or a jane remover) made music that instead pulled from darkwave influences and more prominently the vaporwave scene. It's like a club from another dimension, and you're watching a dj set by an omnipresent being. The vocals have a very subdued quality, which while I don't think works all the ... read more
Another gorgeous dose of lusciously arranged psychedelic strokes of genius. The lyrics explore love through a variety of lenses, and in those lenses I especially appreciate the lack of a need for it to always focus on the romance aspect of things. Usually animal collective have a tendency to make music that when ignoring how devastating the lyrics are on occasion sounds so smile inducing it's infectious, but this one is definitely an outlier from that. It's not afraid to strip itself back, and ... read more
I had my skepticisms at the beginning of this record and nearly dodged it but i gave it a listen all the way through and, I am happy to say that I think the MOST of shortcomings of this record are entirely out of this guy's control. This record is very cheaply recorded and produced, plus the instrumentation is a little flat, maybe even MIDI but I'm not knowledgeable about production enough to make that call. This doesn't surprise me; I don't really expect stellar high budget stuff from an ... read more
Pretty much perfect in its execution get back to me when I Up this into a 10 in 2 months
I do wanna start this off than I'm actually glad this record exists, my friend was telling me about how this record came about years after a drug kick killed trevor powers' vocal chords, rendering it difficult if not impossible to sing properly. And with that in mind, this record isn't too bad! There's a great understated almost connor oberst meets tom waits to the way he sounds even if maybe not necessarily as emotive. Not that that's necessarily an issue; it's smokey but very relaxing. It's ... read more
It wouldnt be very right of me to comment on this one
I think there's potential here very deep down but there's a couple key things that are holding this project back a little bit. For starters, I want to mention i think the digital side of things on here is done pretty well, it glistens and sways gorgeously. I also really like the guitar playing, it's nice and varied. However, I think the thing holding both of these things back is they don't necessarily blend seamlessly. It's jarring how they clash together, not quite unpleasant but not quite ... read more
The game does his usual thing over Hit-Boy beats that range from being just your average hit-boy beat to genuinely arduous to listen to. Not to mention the aforementioned "usual thing" the game does is a shell of what it once was, his lyricism is at best quotable because of absurdity and at worst some of the most low hanging fruit similes i've heard in a long time. Not to mention the more poppier songs where hit-boy for some reason goes trap and The Game / Big Hit try to sound hard ... read more
Goddamn this is an improvement over last years "Arkadexicon," It's almost night and day. This one takes a bit more of a instrumental hip-hop approach as oppose to the more electronic work of his other stuff, and it works wonders here. The hazy samples, electronic basslines, and the not overpowering but very noticable HexD bitcrush on all the mixes make this sound not just great, but surreal. Everything is so simple at first but there is some genuinely great drumwork here too. ... read more
It's a bit too long for it's own good. When it progresses it's a really nice experience, but for every piece of progression it kind of feels like there's twice as much meandering. I do want to give this credit though and not make it seem like this record isn't worth your time, it very much is and ill tell you why. The sound design on this record despite it overstaying it's welcome I was genuinely kind of baffled by. Drone and Noise respectively are both often very oversaturated with stuff that ... read more
Definitely lopsided as the first half is pleasant but a bit on the meandering side, i got much more out of the second half of the record, with prettier and more textured instrumental arpeggios (or atleast what i believe to be that) that pairs well with the crisp distortion. It’s really really amazing at it’s best moments but As a wholistic record i think this is more potential filled then “great.” Special shoutout to that last track though, doesn't waste a second of ... read more
theres a couple noiser moments that are so sudden and quick that it's jarring. Maybe something more fleshed out and dedicated would be nice in that regard but other than that the hexd bitcrushed ambient sound gone for here is actually pretty impressively done here. Really really pretty sounding, special shoutout to that guitar arpeggio on the last track. Great stuff
A nice quaint little new direction for twikipedia to go in. Nothing really blows my mind but i don't think that's the intention here, I think it's far from fully realized too but obviously giving this is a very different route that they're going in I don't think this sounds too bad for a first start. I really like the opener in particular, the way the drums come in at the end is really satisfying
One of the most monolithic releases I've ever had the pleasure of hearing
overflowing with life, endlessly colorful, staring through a whirlwind of bright light of all different shades and just letting every inch of technologically tinted jazz take over your body. It's enveloping, giant, and powerful, but at the same time it's some of the most passionate, intimate, and delicate sounding shit I've ever heard in my life. Every solo on this record is like an outpour of optimism. A tapestry of love for music or whatever it might be. A magnificent project even for her ... read more
couple hours before new years and im giving this record a relisten, and it really just seeps into your psyche. one of the most inescapable records of the past 20 years. So absolutely gorgeous and it pulls from an often shamed sound so beautifully.
bookended by 2 great tracks is some of the most historically insignificant, poorly mastered, and boring tracks I've heard in a hot minute. I actually did a double take when i saw the date this record came out. Late 1969. The amount of incredible and groundbreaking stuff that is already out and for this record to have the reputation it has makes no sense to me. Every good part of this record is often watered down by mick jaggers lackluster vocal preformance
great guitar playing and the tone is absolutely amazing (fits the cover greatly) but i think this record is kind of same-y. There's some great riffs here and there to pick out of, but for the most part it kind of bleeds together and never offers anything new to kind of cleanse your palette. The vocalist is good in a technical sense, but his voice is far from original for this genre or for rock music in general. I can definitely see the appeal for this record but I think there's some glaring ... read more
some of the warmest, liveliest , and brilliant psychedelic recordings of all time. A celebration of so many styles woven together fore fronted by two gorgeous brazilian vocalists putting their all into every note. It's monumental.
