I definitely think this is the record that dismantles peoples expectations of what "post-rock" sounds like, because as opposed to most things falling under the genre, (my mind darting to acts like slint or godspeed) this record is almost completely opposite in sound. You cannot get sparser than this. Every track is long, and caked with subtle complexity that you either love or hate. In my eyes actually, i really think they earn their runtime and despite always being so subdued go by ... read more
i dont really know how to put my enjoyment for this one into words that really add anything to the conversation regarding this record. Its really stunning for sure. A few cuts i could make take or leave but nothing resembling a bad song
A really feel good mixtape for the holidays. I really like how they never really stick to one sound, instead opting to kind of let everyone contribute their strong suit to the record. It makes every contribution flourishing, its like you can feel the joy emitting from every single note. In a sense it's a lot like a Christmas morning. A gathering; a shared joy, and an undying togetherness. It's not often you see these levels of absolute comfort in a record, but they hit the nail on the head. I ... read more
definitely dated lyrically but sebiis melodies are so damn good most of the time that i cant help but enjoy myself despite it. BONErr is still one of the greatest digicore songs ever, doesnt take itself seriously at all and still works because the melody is so catchy. Seriously props to whoever can get me to say "Im a motherfucking boner" because the hook is just that catchy
pristine truly. Electronic pop bliss. His perfect pitch vocals are the perfect match against the quaint but often very quick and skittering electronic production. Everything in the mix is so intricate and with each listen to this record i just found myself getting more invested, more lost in the sea of layers. And amidst all this, above everything, at the very surface of all the intricacies, every single one of these songs is accessible, and catchy as fuck. I listened to this record for the ... read more
The variety in instrumentation, presentation, and sonic pallets elevate these well written and catchy songs into genuine anthems. Not to mention the voice on bruce springsteen, could catch any civilian into a chokehold instantly and turn their blood into Budweiser. behind that rasp is sheer power. Honestly nearly a flawless record the only minor issue is "Shes The One" is fucked over sequencing wise, coming right after the title track and being a lower octane cut to me is not a very ... read more
Bjork up to this point has always had an oddball quality to her music, an eclectic-ness that would become very inseparable from her brand after this album. Whereas an album like "Post" maybe achieved this by spitting in the face of consistency and throwing shit at the wall, this record attains it because bjork is a fucking lunatic. Shes lost her mind. The production is very IDM heavy, very glitchy, and probably the most disorientating thing ive heard her do, which works incredibly ... read more
her most refined project this far. Every unwinding and everchanging section of lightspeed electronics sounds like hours was poured into every second. I truly don't know how she keeps doing.
the most one note hyperpop project from this era in my eyes. Glaive's melodies just are not strong at all
a bunch of short but extremely cutting folk ballads from someone with the intimacy and homey-ness of say a joni mitchell or a townes van zandt. her voice is a little on the nasally side but that's noting but benefit to the record, it sounds like someone rocking back and forth on a rocking chair and reminiscing, and it's not always the most optimistic, or happy, but it sure is fucking honest
Some solid ideas for dream pop songs that are given 5 minutes of runtime yet no growth as tracks themselves. Sometimes its a solid chorus, sometimes it's a short lived instrumental passage, stuff along those lines. I start off really enjoying a song and then at like the 2 minute mark it starts to really drag on and it's pretty consistent at having that issue unfortunately
i think leans melody game has gotten much better as time has gone on but dude the roughness to it really adds to the vibe of this record tenfold, it's almost archaic how this record sounds. These are genuinely some of the most addicting cloud rap beats ive ever heard too. I'm upset with myself that I initially dismissed this after giving it a half assed listen up to about yoshi city and deciding that i didnt want to continue. Extremely fulfilling if you're willing to let it unfold it's ... read more
about what you would expect. Good if you don't pay attention to it in depth. Easy to get lost in. Not necessarily something to digest any deeper than that and i feel like at a runtime of 1:27 that kinda blows but its enjoyable
idrk know what to say about this record I thought it was good and wiki is a talented lyricist but this record really just doesn't blowww my mind at all. I feel like i like it but i have no reason to prefer it. It's missing an X factor even though i can listen to it and think "yeah this is quality"
genuinely unbelievable. his sound is so unbelievably hard to define and I'm saying that as someone who maybe overuses that term a little bit but i mean it with no strings attached here. its mystique makes it ungraspably serene but also very difficult to make anything out of. Death and life cycles were some themes i caught and they were portrayed through multiple perspectives very vividly. Compare the chilling interview clips of the title track to the optimistic cries of wanting to see life ... read more
immaculately produced in every sense, I think some of the sound effects felt a little gimmicky but everything else really has me optimistic for the future of dnb, if we can get genre fusions this smooth who knows what the future holds
just a little by the numbers, only a little detrimental when you are as consistent as sadness is
The slight but potent vaporwave tinge the producers brought is what really elevates this from just a typical really great abstract hiphop album to a hazy psych experience of a record. I really like how off-kilter his flows are, and how unpredictable the production is despite being loop based. It feels like it's from another dimension.
