PAIN
Maruja are no strangers to pain. All of Maruja’s art so far has explored the enduring and eventual overcoming of pain. Knocknarea explored the horrifying clashes of war, the civilians trying to stay alive and find connection while their skies burn ... read more
JPEG has been digging a giant hole for himself after his last LP, so many embarrassing endorsements of the worst of the worst, so many butthurt and childish tangents. One of the most interesting things about Peggie has always been his terminally online personality, that's what made his best work so in tune with a lot of young folks during the quarantine; Veteran hit so much harder during that time in my life because it just felt like there was such a playful edge to his work that made it ... read more
Every single instrumental detail serves a distinct purpose in the way these compositions blossom, there is nothing on here that directly carries the experience that this EP takes you through because every single contribution of every member of the band is clearly felt in everything.
Love the whimsical yet cutting and jagged atmosphere of the EP, these combinations are often subtle and can be overlooked if you don't carefully listen, but even when you don't this feeling of tension ... read more
Deliciously raw and unpolished in a way that feels akin to a low budget garage post rock record from the early nineties. I love the wonky atmosphere on this EP, it genuinely feels like these compositions could move anywhere they'd want, like a set of live wires strewn across a room; waiting for the opportune moment to strike.

As a result this record feels like they are trying to expand their sound and break away from the sound that gave them notoriety but do so in a way where the magic is diminished a bit.
If you're a fan of their sound you will definitely enjoy this more than I did, I feel like ... read more
Amazing use of juxtaposition and noise to craft a super unique atmosphere that feels like stepping into a vivid and lucid dreamscape. Filled with earblasting semi-chiptune beatwork and amazing sound design, Rumspringa feels like one of the most captivating and unique records of the year so far.
The way this album uses noise and transforming it to different vibrant heights is so incredibly captivating and immersive.
Truly an untapped and singular sound that feels so incredibly synthetic yet ... read more
