Insane how they took the most terribly produced masterpiece of a track in the title track and then made the same song for 7 more tracks and despite all of that its still incredible
The second part of this record completely blows it for me. The first half is normal, I've always like portrayal of guilt's sound and while I do think they're at their best when they lean screamo I don't think black metal is a mismatch for them at all. Why did they decide to do orchestral versions at the end. The instrumentals themselves are fine, but the vocal style sounds damn near unlistenable overtop of the instrumentals. I don't know who greenlit that but it boggles my mind that they did. ... read more
God damn this rips hard, one of the most epic and euphoric releases I've heard all year
Like numbingly one-note, I like out outwards the lyrics are sometime I can appreciate that in an album but dear god as songs this does absolutely nothing for me
Actually for as disappointing as this record was made out to be by fans I really really like the afrobeat inspired production here a lot, it gives a nice beach-y sound that's hard to hate. But unfortunately nothing over it is interesting or engaging enough for me to latch onto, it feels like constant untapped potential
Definitely has more of a pulse than their last album which was genuinely one of the most tedious listens ive had this year, but it's still way to spotty as a project for me to be completely in love with it. I do quite like "Hornets" and "Smoke Detector"
Preformed excellently and the vocals are guttural. Some of the riffs on here are mesmerizing as well. The mixing is certainly strange but I think it works really well here despite the muddiness. Really really good shit
Pretty spotty, but i really like the sing along and utter joy this album brings. The production on occasion blows my mind too, i don't know what they were on when they made "The Undertaker" but i need more of it asap
One of the most forward thinking records in music history, and in tandem one of the most recognizable ones as well. Every song on here is tight, the vocals are killer, and even a 4 year old could recognize half of the shit on here. It's truly a multigenerational record and a fantastically enjoyable one at that
I will say i still strongly think DS4 was one of the least essential listens i did last year, milquetoast in every single way with an MC that seemingly made an effort to be as unengaging as possible. I am here to report that he woke up and figured out what it means to present yourself as an energetic vocalist, and he followed that for a little bit of this album. I still think this record is way too spotty, but theres a handful of really great cuts that make this worth atleast the listen. I ... read more
It's a drake album. It's got some hip-hop centric tracks that reminds you that no matter how blatantly he excels in that field specifically he'll never commit to it ever again for some reason. It's got more melodic tracks than it needs to that just end up feeling sleepy by the end. It's got fuckin partynextdoor. It's got some absolutely terrible cuts on it namely the bafflingly terribly preformed "All The Parties." It's got also some actually incredible songs that really makes me ... read more
Tight dance pop album. Sometimes dips in quality and never really pushes boundaries. But there's some really great cuts on here like "Purr" or "Dramatic." Not much I can't get in better spades from other artists though
This isn't an album you can really give a casual listen to. I struggle to really put into words what this record sounds like. It's not something I think i would ever listen to outside of the context of the record. It's simply too out there. It's really hard to make heads or tails of in a way that's mostly mesmerizing but sometimes a little slow and feels like it's going nowhere. A lot of the times it feels like there's going to be a build but the climax that ends up coming either never really ... read more
(when u go this hard it hits incredibly the first few songs but after a while it gets impossible to differentiate the tracks, this is at fault of that but it all technically sounds Good. and there is both and audience and place for this. Some people are really into asphyxia and i have no reason to judge that (just throwing this in to certify journalistic integrity) ((or something like that idk my life's a movie))
Feels straight out of the 70s, like they came back 50 actual years later and havent skipped a beat in their sound, you could tell anyone that this was recorded back then and they'd probably believe you. The energy on here is nuts, the dancy psych rock always feels like its propelling you forward. You see records compared to experiences on LSD a lot, but it's records like these that make me savor those comparisons; because THIS is a trip. It hits some less energetic moments that pale in ... read more
