Good lord this man just can’t stop missing in my eyes. For the amount of backing Jack got from word go I was interested in seeing where he goes but it seems it’s just back to back middling performances. From rapping to R&B singing, this man can’t help but be asleep. He offers nothing new or even remotely individual over relatively nice beats in the most sleepy fashion possible. I swear if Jack were to start putting in effort we might have something substantial to listen to ... read more
The perfect continuation of this legendary bands comeback. The evolution and maturity of not only their older sound but their newer sound. Well crafted and incredibly intelligent and versatile. I was never a fan of the direction after Resolution but I can see they learned so much from the two albums they did in that time and managed to give everything in this album. Happy to see one of my former favourites not phoning it in and relishing in the challenge of furthering the band
This thing right here goes SOFT! A nice relaxing existential journey that when you dig deeper hits closer and closer to home. Beautiful and smart instrumental selections make this thing a breeze to listen to and keeps your ear the whole time. Captivating, cohesive and touching. Very good debut album and I will be keeping an eye on this artist to see where they go from here
Recommended by P1kah. Bro the beats on this thing are absolutely insane. They really carry this experience in my eyes. The Rapper is very one note and doesn't really have a flow to bring these beats full justice but in most cases he becomes very secondary to the beats anyway so it doesn't 100% take away from the experience but there are points he becomes very grating. Apart from that drawback I still enjoyed my time with the beats. If they release a beat tape/instrumental version, I ... read more
Is it the new meta for the high end of pop musicians to drop disappointing albums this year? Despite using some very interesting sounds and production, none of it is given the time to flesh out or used in an effective or interesting way ultimately leading to a very shallow and middling experience. I was very excited for this one as I had enjoyed Fine Line and Harry's House a lot. Hopefully the next one he gets a little deeper into it.
I have so desperately wanted Mateus to release a solo project full of his ideas and I am over the moon that it turned out this good. This reminds me of the old Guitar virtuoso albums of the bygone era. Like if Steve Vai decided to chill the fuck out fully. Masterful playing with so much passion and emotion that I can feel every note in my bones. Highly anticipated and lives up to the hype. Incredible work and I can't wait to see if he continues to drop from here, I will be following closely
The fall off of quality for BLACKPINK is fascinating. From one of the leading K-Pop acts to impressive Solo career successes only to return to base and drop a very lacklustre project. Whilst I understand this is just an EP and is hopefully in no way indicative of future works but it doesn't bode well. I fear for them falling into the hole of most other Kpop groups where they trade in individuality for a watered down sound to appeal as broadly as possible.
A beautiful folksy project with a lot of heart. A lot of feeling and intent behind the musical choices in this and it's refreshing to hear such a hand crafted sound in this day and age. As a first experience with the artist I am impressed and will likely comb their early work to get more of this vibe going forward.
A floaty and vibey album that entangles you in its sound, creating the perfect atmosphere for you to just allow the music to captivate you. I have been loving this artist for a few years now and glad I was on the ball with a rollout this time so I could connect with this project a little deeper than the others. Well crafted, super nice tones, worth a good few spins
Think this might be the first genuinely awful experience I have had with an album this year. Every lyric stands in a shallow pond of nonsense feigning substance, nothing that was said meant anything important and all backed with the same ethereal soft voice and screech combo that got so grating by the end. The vocal placements also frustrated me to no end as they were very beginner song writer alongside the fact that outside of maybe 3 songs they are all the same damn beats. Considering this is ... read more
I mean, for the most part this is just a solid Death metal album. Produced better than most and solid pacing. The issue is a lot of it is in one ear and out the other. Outside a few stand outs there isn't much to write home about. Solid work but maybe just not something I will personally return to
A very fun project that I didn't expect all that much from. Bouncy tunes with some incredible performances across the board. You get your heavy, you get your sad, you get your atmosphere and you get a solid album as a whole. Diverse and decent. Definitely worth a spin or two
They did it. They made me fall in love with their sound again. I was so disappointed by CURE that I started losing hope but they picked it back up with a far more passionate feeling album. This has some of the most fun and interesting songs they have written, what these guys are able to achieve sonically will always be a marvel to me. Weirdly, I feel like between CURE and this album they didn't change all that much but still managed to create something truly special and felt like them ... read more
The unholy amalgamation of the current pop scene. It's clear that Hilary isn't playing to her strengths in this one and someone is in her ear saying they need to follow trends. There are several songs that feel like they are ripped straight out of albums from the scene at the moment. eg Roommates is a late era Taylor Swift songs in both vocal styling and production as well as the horny and awkward lyrics, Future Tripping is a repressed Sabrina Carpenter song that lacks power which we ... read more
What a slog. After a strong start with a few good songs this thing falls off a cliff into Midville. Some of these songs feel unfinished and incomplete, like ideas that just weren't fully given the time to flourish. It's really a mess. Not sure I will return to anything outside of Red Flag which was so much fun.
Just a really good metal project. It has everything. Heaviness, solos, breakdowns, nasty riffs, trashy elements, ballads, Simple instrumentation without too much background mess and a talented vocalist to round it out with both dirty and clean vocals. All with a smooth mix to make it so easy to listen to and repeatable. Well worth a few spins
I got a few out of these one but not as many as I would have liked. I feel like this band is spreading themselves too thin. They are trying to do the Shoegaze metal thing, the popcore thing and the heavy thing which in a way makes them interesting and multifaceted but also makes it tonally inconsistent. Hopefully this is just the band figuring themselves out because despite my complaints I am still taking a few songs off this thing and want to see where they go.
Decent Modern Deathcore EP. Packed with brutal moments and the lorna shore-esque blast sections. Brings nothing too groundbreaking to the table but still shows their prowess. I hope we can get something more individual to them like with Ritual Hymns but am still going to listen to a few of these tracks
Incredible first impression of an artist who I was recommended on a whim. While I know most of the featured artists and had pre-established love for them it was nice to hear them on a project like this. Danny brought some very interesting vibes and made it so easy to enjoy his work doing the one thing I love most in my electronic music. Building a soundscape. I will be running this back for a LONG time
This one I was very excited for! Ready for this to be the follow up I needed from this band after really loving their stuff in 2021/2022 but I am thoroughly disappointed. I originally saw them in a line of bands similar to Sleep Token but different enough that it felt singular but this one felt like someone who listened to Sleep Token and didn't understand the assignment. A lot of this felt so uninspired and boring with a staggering 1 hour runtime I felt it drag its knuckles across the ... read more
