First time jumping into a Joyce Manor project and I can say I had a lot of fun. Just some well written songs that don't feel like they need to overdo anything to be enjoyable. Straight forward and all round a decent listen. Worth a few spins and a few of theses are gonna make the playlist for sure.
Solid HEVY project but does lack a lot of depth. Few songs will make the playlist but felt like there was a lack of anything individual or stand out. I can see they have the talent to pull it all off and look forward to future projects, I am just hoping they can find a way to separate themselves from everything and make something that feels exclusive to them.
An unbelievable feat in atmosphere. This album is produced gorgeously with a huge emphasis on the world it places you in. Each song feels like a new chapter in the story and carried me away on a beautiful voyage. Huge riffs and brutal sections all backed by the atmospheric soundscape I adored from each of the singles. I do wish they left more of the album for the full release and wish it was a little longer but all in all I adore these songs and will continue to have this on repeat.
This one I was super excited for but was a little disappointed by. I jumped on the Good Tiger wagon from the album We Will All Be Gone and have been a fan since. You could feel them putting everything into the performances on this one and the mix is IMMACULATE but I think the song writing is the biggest let down of this project, whilst all the songs aren't bad, they feel like they blend together aside from one or two (the two being Sweet Decay and Blissful Indifference) Otherwise ... read more
It took me a fair few listens to get to a final verdict for this project. The much anticipated, said to be final album for Cole is a sprawling mass of songs that range from strong storytelling moments to Coles signature braggadocio on the more hype songs. Somehow, this doesn't feel like an hour and 41 minutes passes. It feels far shorter but it could just be down to the fact that it's just that well written and enjoyable. I really think that the story telling songs stood tall on this ... read more
Such a good shoegaze album. I felt so engrossed in it. The sound is so captivating and makes the experience so beautiful. I found myself floating through the album weightlessly, blissfully unaware of the world around me for a moment. This holds everything I love about the genre and I will be running this back over and over again.
Solid Modern Metalcore project with some decent moments. picked it up coz the album art is fire and I can't say I went into it with too many expectations. Starts very strong but as it goes it feels like it suffers a little from being a bit generic in sections. I can see the potential in this group and look forward to hearing more from them.
A fun one. I have been mixed in my previous experience with Cavetown but I really resonated with this one. Super fun instrumentals and a focused and very charming vocal style that blends to make the experience a memorable and enjoyable one. Got my goofy ass dancing so can’t deny it’s quality.
God this album scratches that nasty prog itch. Beautifully produced, masterfully put together with some incredibly well thought out structures and songs that just naturally flow in tension and release. Crisp, easily repeatable and an album that will no doubt make its way to my playlists
Okay to start off with the positive aspects. I can appreciate that as far as “Final Albums” go, I am glad such a legendary band is going out on their terms. Props to Megadeth for that
In saying that. This exemplifies why the retirement is a good thing. You can tell the song writing isn’t there, you can hear that the production is just “good enough” considering how thin it all is and whilst they can still play, the creativity is gone (I imagine that happens after ... read more
Originally I wasn’t going to rate this because it was clear I don’t find Ateez in any way interesting, but my boy kept talking about it so I had to and in a shocking event that I never saw coming I didn’t connect with it. This is truly one of the most boring Kpop groups in the game at the moment releasing club bangers that would make me leave the club or at the very least consider a piss break and a refill. I will stand on my word this time and will not be rating them going ... read more
First time listening to Enhypen and honestly. Is it just me or do they not live up to their name? Outside of a couple moments they all feel like they are asleep during their performance. Like the beats are going hard in sections and they just sound narcoleptic. I went into this with high hopes but came out feeling nothing. Also I was completely thrown by the spoken word interludes sounding like a Podcast clip over backing music. I understood what they were trying to do but it felt like it made ... read more
I have always had a soft spot for Exo. They were a big reason I got into Kpop back when they dropped THE WAR and I feel like after staying away from them for a while I fear they haven’t really developed much. A few bangers here and there on this thing and feels more partial to the style of Kpop that I enjoyed back in 2016 - 2019 where it sounded individual. Still a supremely safe, by the numbers album that takes very little risks or fails to attempt anything special.
A solid deathhore album that feels like its bringing some older sensibilities back to help emphasise the heaviness of it all. They did an incredible job showing that the older style we have stepped away from has some legs and can fit in with the newer style of symphonic and grandiose melodic Lorna Shore-Core we hear to this day. Took it on a whim looking through new releases and I was not disappointed.
Short but full of substance. One of my more anticipated releases since late last year and they delivered. Big ass riffs, tight song writing and a huge sound giving this thing the perfect amount of edge and punch. The right amount of the metalcore side and hardcore side to make it heavy as shit but still consumable. I can see myself spinning this over and over.
This is a tricky one. On the one hand I have a lot of moments on this where it clicks with me like in songs like In My Town, Best Interest or And I Dance but there are songs that I just can't get behind like Dead Weight, Grapefruit or GGG. I think in respects to other Experimental Hip Hop I have experienced, these guys make more decisions that feel less experimental and more faux-intellectual. There are songs that are working and they just add one or two elements that ruin it. It's ... read more
A good follow up to negative spaces. Very consistent and well written album that tackles a lot more of the aggressive side of Poppy while maintaining the ethereal segments to help emphasise the aggression. I feel it definitely feels safer than her previous records but shows that her work with groups like Spiritbox and Knocked Loose are influential and helping with her work. My only complaints lay in how overly produced it feels in sections taking away from the raw feeling she has had in ... read more
While this album is very well produced, clean cut and well performed, It feels incredibly hollow and boring. I feel almost the same way as I did when I listened to the Tate McRae or Addison Rae album from last year but Madison is clearly a far better vocalist than both of them. I feel like I would really enjoy a Madison project if her sound was far more individual and less safe and built off the backs of her contemporaries. All in all, I feel like it will have the broad appeal it intends to ... read more
I have always LIKED Rocky but never fell in love with his work. This however is probably the closest I have gotten. Feels similar to Utopia from Travis in the sense there was a lot of experimental aspects in it. The sounds he plays with are so much fun and add so much to the experience. So many bangers and fun songs that will be filling out my playlist, The only real big complaint I have is it feels like it can drag in areas and reiterate the same sentiments of previous songs (Yes we are aware ... read more
Blanket was the band that helped me get into Shoegaze and further understand the genre and now that I have had a decent journey through the genre, having them drop an album is amazing for me to come full circle with understanding of the genre now. These guys have something truly special. They have the grit and noise of shoegaze but aren't afraid of large modern production, in fact they use it to their benefit. The enormous soundscapes and absolutely crushing full band sound makes for an ... read more
