Sleep Token - Take Me Back to Eden

FryDaRetrospective - Sleep Token:

The grandiose finale to the trilogy. Not only does this hold my favourite song they have ever released in chokehold, this was a force of nature in the world of alternative music. Incorporating a multitude of sounds bending and blending several genres that helped show their diversity and individuality, which is a quality I credit for helping make heavier music more accessible for new listeners. A masterclass in songwriting and progressive sound that had me ... read more

FryDaRetrospective - Sleep Token:

This album means so damn much to me. This I went into expecting to hate because I didn’t like the previous but was pleasantly surprised with some of the most beautiful, heart wrenching and confrontational music I had heard to that day. Every song hits harder and harder the deeper you go and with the added benefit of being an album that offers something new on relisten. From my own theories of this being a full narrative in itself on unrequited love to it ... read more

FryDaRetrospective - Sleep Token:

Now hear me out. I hated this album when it dropped. So many people talking bout them being the second coming of Jesus and sending me the Offering. But since becoming a fan I still can’t seem to connect with this one. It’s a little more all over the show and unfocused. There are highlight moments you can feel them hit a stride but will always disconnect by the next song and feel like whiplash. Not bad by any means. Just knowing for a fact they step ... read more

Sevendust - ONE

I want to love this album. There are so many good moments on it but it reminds me a little too much of Kill The Flaw in that there is a lot of fat that could have been trimmed. The band sounds incredible given their tenure in the scene. Drums are clean and intentional with Morgan's signature simple sounding but when you look deeper complex style. The Guitars are heavy and well rounded, bass following both bringing it together and Lajon soaring like an angel over the top. Sounds like they ... read more

Sepultura - The Cloud of Unknowing

Honestly? Nothing astonishing but great to hear a band of their era still coming in with a strong set of songs. Got some solid riffs and decent ideas. While I am not blown away by it I understand it's an EP that has done exactly what it needed to do in giving me an idea of where they are at as a band at the moment and how their sound has evolved

Thundercat - Distracted
80

This just a beautiful ass album. Thundercat provides vibes like no one else. Silky smooth and at times funky as shit leading to sex for the ears. Fun, floaty and fascinating all in one. Showing off incredible musicianship, song writing prowess and feature selection that serves every featured song so perfectly. Love it to death and will be spinning on repeat

American Football - American Football
80

First experience with a full American Football project and I am impressed. I feel as thought this band has a perfect understanding of the Midwest Emo style and are able to create some very standout sounds and songs because of it. Everything seems so synergised and in sync to make the vibe as magical as it is. Will likely do a retrospective into their previous albums to get a full picture but loving this album

157frq - A World I Was Never A Part Of

A really solid first outing for a band with a lot of promise. Simple, effective and nasty. A refreshing raw sound for a day and age of clean polished sounds. Excited to see where these guys go

The Amity Affliction - House of Cards

Not bad. Not great. There are moments on this thing that made it worth the listen. Couple stand out songs but the all round vibe of this album feels a little phoned in. Which is disappointing after such a deeply emotional and captivating album in Not Without My Ghosts. I want to like it but it feels too lifeless for me to fully commit to.

Periphery - A Pale White Dot
85

A profoundly important piece of their discography. Dark, vulnerable and standout to their other work. You can feel their usual influence but working with lower tunings and baritone guitars made this album so special and with Nolly at the helm again making it sound ENORMOUS. Playing to their unparalleled strength through their focus on song writing showing extreme restraint and instead of making riffs for the sake of riffs, they serve the song at every single turn. It’s beautiful to see ... read more

Drake - HABIBTI

I now understand how people felt about Honestly Nevermind. These songs really didn't need to come off the harddrive. Feels like Drake wanted the shock of dropping 3 albums without having to put in the effort to make 3 consistently good albums. I stand on the fact that if he were to put the best songs from each of these albums together he would have a nice, tight and decent album. But instead we are stuck with bloat and boredom. Imma call it a day on Drake and just continue to need my One ... read more

Drake - MAID OF HONOUR

As one of the only people in the world who enjoyed Honestly, Nevermind, I was excited to hear this one start up as a dance album. The first like 4 songs were a lot of fun, even the Sexyy Red song. Then from Which One onward it takes a dive in quality and fun factor. We walk back to a sleepy Drake over some dance beats that get more and more boring as the album continues. There's even a section where he attempts a Weeknd-esqe synthpop thing and just didn't have the sauce to pull it ... read more

Drake - ICEMAN

So I don't know why I expected Drake to lock in for this one. Mr Unphased drops possibly the most insane cope album ever. What I was expecting was an album that focuses on his strengths, steers away from beef with anyone and makes some bangers but what we got was another bloated and directionless stream farm. The beats have potential, but are wasted here on the same boring flows and awful bars. Not to mention this man has an addiction to beat switching, like somehow changing the beat is ... read more

sace6 - brutalist
80

There is some form of crack in this album. No matter how much I want to listen to something else I am drawn back to it. No matter my complaints with it like how the mix is a bit overblown and kind of stifles the experience, they make up for it in vibe and over all song writing. At first I was disappointed but with each listen it grows more and more on me. A solid debut and a great follow up to Limerence.

Bodysnatcher - Hell Is Here, Hell Is Home
85

This right here is a thing of beauty. Straight up spiteful and heinous amount of heaviness out of all facets of this project. Immaculate sound, chunky chugs and nasty riffs you can snap your neck to. What else do you need?

Karmanjakah - Diamond Morning
80

Karmanjakah continue to impress with their Happy Thall and spacey vibes. Very much plays on its atmosphere sending the listener on a journey through sonic bliss. I am a little unsure on the Quadeca-esque rapping/spoken word sections on some of the songs but all in all it doesn’t fully sour the album for me. They make it real easy to be a fan of them.

MUNA - Dancing On The Wall
75

This group has everything I love in Pop music. Fantastic voices, fun instrumentation, smart choices and tight structure. Making time to get political and emotionally vulnerable and introspective while giving you that nice dose of feel good vibes to balance it all out. Will be keeping this in rotation a while and remain a long time fan of the work of this group

Plini - An Unnameable Desire
80

This man deserves far more recognition for just how goddamn incredible his musicianship is. Plini is back with possibly his weirdest works to date. A darker and heavier tone is felt throughout this but as always he makes time for his saucy and boppy tracks somewhere in the middle. I have always wanted to see what he could do if he went full heavy and I got my answer, he nails that shit. There are a few songs I feel suffer from the larger mix but for every Canyon there is a Manala that shines ... read more

Normandie - SIDE EFFECTS PT.1
30

A huge drop off in quality from a band I had high hopes for. Catching on to their music in 2024 with Dopamine, I thought very highly of this bands future but they fell to a very low point in quality of work so fast. Whilst the song writing is inoffensive as a whole it fails to captivate or give me anything to latch on to. I retained nothing but a feeling of secondhand cringe listening to the fence-sitter anthem "Guilt By Association". Truly this song tries so hard to be politically ... read more

Jessie Ware - Superbloom
85

Jessie may be the goat of revisionist disco and dance music. Three back to back banger albums of super bouncy and danceable tracks with this probably being the most laid back of the 3 but by no means devoid of life. Track to track I find myself grooving and floating away in a sea of good vibes. She don't miss.
