FryDaRetrospective - Metallica's Discography

Now this remains another guilty pleasure. I don't think this album is as bad as people let on. There are so many fun riffs and glimpses of the signature Metallica sound from the first 5 albums while utilising what they learned from the latter 3 albums. This was the return to form they needed and honestly they where I believe they should have left it and gone out on top. Was it mixed atrociously? Yes. Did that stop me from blasting it ... read more

Now hear me out. I was a glazer in my youth for this album and while this got harder to return to in later years, I still have a fondness for this album. It introduced the ideas of different tunings, different riff stylings and gave me a more straight forward lyrical basis to latch onto as a teenager. This will remain a proud guilty pleasure and one of the albums that influenced me heavily in my musical journey. Yes, the snare sounds like shit. ... read more

A continuation of what I said in my load review that I LOVE these albums unapologetically. This one inspired me specifically with how to write my own songs after spending hours almost studying them. There are so many hidden gem moments in these albums that get overlooked because of the daunting task of the run time. I am glad I spent the time to comb these albums when I was younger giving me a deeper appreciation for them in life and teaching ... read more

Now, whilst a LOT of people are critical of these albums, I LOVE Load and Reload. These albums are full of fun ideas and moments that were responsible for so much auditory joy. Many more emotional ballads, songs loaded (ha) with fun riffs and exploring sounds outside of their genre. I understand the criticism for these albums but they hold a special place in my heart.

The commercial success record. The through way to metal for a lot of people, including myself. As overplayed as some of the songs are on this album I still stand by them with just how legendary they are. Truly a masterful way to bring their style to a far more broad audience whilst not having to sacrifice much to retain their essence. This got me into metal, guitar and whilst I had a decent relationship with music prior to this, this album ... read more

Possibly my favourite written album from the band. Absolutely crushing album with some of the most astonishing riffs in the game. Shame what they did to the bass in this album on initial but I think they have remastered it to do a tiny bit better. I will forever hold this album in such high regard for just how intelligently it is put together and how influential it was as a whole

Flawless album. A masterclass of metal. A collection of epics written immaculately in song form through unbelievable musicianship. This album is largely responsible for most of my passion for metal music. This was Metallica truly defining their sound and proving themselves as the titans of the genre.

The perfect sophomore to a strong debut. So many of these songs are vast improvements on their established style and branching out to bring new aspects like experimenting with things like using clean/acoustic tones to enhance sections and earn it's heaviness to the point they wrote a ballad. So many classics on this thing. Even Escape, the most forgettable song (to the point the band didn't perform it until 2012) is still a good ass ... read more

Incredible and iconic debut from a band that went on to be legendary. Never been my favourite and a few tracks I can live without but you can hear them using their many influences and laying the foundation for a sound that would later shape metal as a whole. So many memorable and fun riffs baked into some of the most interesting song writing for the genre at the time. Extra special shoutout to Cliff for the bass solo that inspired so many.

A cacophonous compendium of superfluous instrumentation and unharmonious vocalisations creating a catastrophic reverberation intending to cause irreparable impairment to ones auditory senses to the point of hilarity. Their seemingly cavernous knowledge of gargantuan words is only dwarfed by their unparalleled sense of humour. My enjoyment of this extended play cannot be overemphasised. In other words. Shit slaps.

I got endless love for this band but man I struggled to get through this one. After stop starting due to losing focus I finally got a full listen through and outside of a couple songs I enjoyed like California and Adrenaline and a couple of nice djenty parts I just couldn't seem to find anything to cling to. By no means horrible. Just painfully middling.

Alison Wonderland - GHOST WORLD

Really fun album. Bunch of nice textures and beats that fuck horrendously hard. Love this shit and will keeping a bunch of these for the playlists.

Hell of a lot of fun listening to this. Got your signature sounds for the genre as well as some other aspects thrown in for good measure. Short and Sweet but gives a lot of substance. An easy listen with a lot of replay value. Spin it. Is good shit.

Jackal Twins - Cuzco

A really solid project, covering quite a range of styles whilst showing a very individual flare. Produced really nicely, clean and aggressive which helps the dissonance of this style very palatable. All round I enjoyed my time with the album and look forward to more going forward. Chur @Omratgsiea for the recommendation

Excide - Bastard Hymns

Silky smooth and clean yet doesn't give up any of its dirtiness in doing so. Hard ass riffs, nice vocals both clean and unclean and really consumable in length. Tight across the board and really glad I took a chance on this band. Will be spinning quite frequently.

South Arcade - PLAY!

Fun EP by a band of people that just look like they are enjoying themselves which is translated infectiously through their music. Solid production, fun song writing and groovy as fuck. I do hope they stop over producing the vocals though. In some songs like Bleed Out it got a little grating. I feel like they were going for a hyperpop styling but it sounds far too straight laced. It doesn't seem as egregious in songs like Blood Run Warm or FEAR OF HEIGHTS but the first few got it BAD.

Another in the slew of Sleep Token-esque groups surfacing at the moment and this one isn't bad. Love the aesthetics and some of the songs structures. I feel like this is everything President was billed to be or at least what I wanted them to sound like when they dropped their EP. All in all, a good foundation to build off and get a start on honing in their individual sound which it seems they are already well on the way to doing. Will keep an eye on this project.

Incredibly fun, sexy, groovy album that doesn't seem to stop (with the exception of the interludes that don't seem to quite connect with the songs). Love that people like these guys and Vianova are here to make fun ass metal music that still has substance and purpose. Good shit.

Aries - GLASS JAW

This is the shit I needed. Awesome production, sad boy vocals, big ass bass and a bunch of noises. Lots of emotion that carries through Aries performances. Felt very similar to brakence in a few moments which is why I was so happy to see and hear the feature from brakence. Well worth a good few spins

Fallweather - You For Life

I love that these guys are showing such a diverse skillset. This is far heavier than the EP from earlier in the year and I am so happy to hear it. This band is giving me everything I want from the Shoegaze to the metalcore side of things and it makes my time with them so much fonder every time. I really look forward to a full LP release from these guys
