Drowned in Sound
Maybe there was too much of it. Maybe it wasn't heavy enough. Maybe there weren't enough bona fide 'Tallica classics. Well, bollocks to that. I liked it.

Get over your Master of Puppets fixation, and twist with this.

Kerrang!
While the odd moment of indulgence may rob the album of a knuckle full of Ks, ‘Load’ is still the album by which every release this year will be measured.

The Sydney Morning Herald
Beyond metal, Metallica make some of the most stimulating and enjoyable hard rock and roll.

Entertainment Weekly
Falling somewhere in between, it captures the band’s earnest pursuit of its Sisyphean mission: to create hard rock that reaches grown-ups and basement-dwelling teenagers. It’s Metallica’s load to bear — and it’s likely they wouldn’t have it any other way.

NME
'Load' eventually proves itself a worthy, if flawed, successor to 'Metallica'.

AllMusic
It isn't surprising to hear Metallica get stodgier and more conservative as they get older, but it is nonetheless depressing.

Load still seems like a response to Appetite for Destruction, but one recorded about a decade too late.

LOADed with mid

It's not bad at all, it's just kind of boring and bloated. Metallica tries a new style here, and it doesn't go terribly wrong or anything, but I would be lying to you if I said this was one of their strong points.

The riffs are super basic, but not bad, the production is mediocre and the vocals are just whatever.

Load doesn't really leave a strong impression on me, good or bad, it just kind of exists. Until It Sleeps is a certified legendary classic, with that iconic riff ... read more

Metallica revisited part 6/12

The point in which Metallica went from being one of the most consistent artists to ever come out of metal and by far the most impressive thrash band around, to one of the most increasingly disappointing and frustrating bands to ever walk the earth. Load marks a period where things start to get rocky for them. They would manage to make multiple albums that have enough quality content within them to make a whole album on its own that would have been really good, but ... read more

Load as an album has grown on my a lot over the last few months
I used to hate this album for it's sound being influenced by Grunge & Blues Rock, but fuck I was wrong
Not only has this album aged surprisingly well, but I think it has aged nearly as well Metallica (self titled black album)

This album may not have any major highlights like AJFA or MOP, but it wasn't trying to be those albums
Load is a different album and an experiment by an established band that grew tired of their ... read more

DAY 6 OF LISTENING TO EVERY METALLICA ALBUM
this feels wierd because it isnt bad but it 100% isn't good so its kinda in between? because some of the songs i think could
belong on "master of puppets" or "ride the lightning" that doesn't make them a 10/10 but it would make them one of the bad songs
on those album which isn't a bad thing it just means none of the songs on "load" are outstanding.
i'm noticing a theme in the album and its ... read more

It's a pretty specific album in Metallica's discography. The record has many very strong features, thanks to which it deservedly found its fans, but at the same time there are enough controversial decisions, and sometimes so much so that they can be called bad. For those who prefer classic thrash metal from Metallica, it may seem too pop, boring and drawn out, but for those who like blues rock or western rock, something may appeal. The main feature of Load (as well as Reload) is a ... read more

This is where Metallica kinda fell off, this is a very forgettable album and not worth talking about it much, there are a couple of good songs I guess but every song just went in one ear and out the other, it was very generic and very mediocre and a couple of 7/10 songs save this rating. Overall the start of the bad Metallica album era and this shows because it’s very much mid
