shinee are a girl group to me and i have loved them since they debuted idc 100/100 !! best way to start pride month. no other group does arena house and garage like shinee has been doing their entire career. atmos is incredibly well crafted and extremely cohesive. it's great to hear LDN noise back with shinee as well, hours is a really groovy disco funk track and the live version sounded incredible during the recent shinee world. also kibum sounds incredible on ... read more
yeah this is absolutely THE aoty for me. genuinely one of the best post-hardcore releases in a long time - static dress have been meticulously crafting the future sound of the genre whilst paying homage to the goats (underoath!!!) and i couldn't be more proud of them. such a vulnerable and emotional album too, it feels heavy even when the vocals are clean. incredible stuff
i haven't listened to enter shikari since their first two albums but honestly i really enjoyed this! everything felt familiar yet modern and it's good to hear they haven't lost their spark for social commentary.
i don't think this is the worst thing i've ever heard but it's also unsurprising? foo fighters fill that need for commercial radio dad rock and it works for those who love it. the last album of theirs which i really loved was wasting light, back then it felt like there was a bit more spark to the songs, or at least back then the shtick hadn't gotten so old.
i just want a new them crooked vultures record before it's too late
Admittedly, I wasn't fussed on his debut single, Waste No Time, but I enjoyed the b-side, Heavenly Blue, and thought it would be worthwhile keeping him on my radar. Thankfully, Glow was a major improvement that helped me understand what Seunghan is capable of.
I just wasn't expecting him to essentially pander to all my interests and tick all the boxes for me, so wow!
Dancing Anyway could honestly be title-track worthy and raised the bar for the rest of the EP. I'm glad this ... read more
i feel like i just listened to the greatest hits of 00s era CW teen dramas, like the type of rock inspired songs you'd hear on a show like one tree hill and smallville, or if kara's flowers the fourth world had continued with their original sound had they not become maroon 5.
i do think the album feels a little too long as 17 tracks becomes a bit unwieldy to sequence, some of these could've fit together on an ep instead. with that said, woodz has a great voice and its clear ... read more
Yuta's debut is his strongest solo release (so far) and definitely the most unique out of all of the NCT solo debuts. Alternative/rock music absolutely suits both Yuta's personality and voice, and his influences from J-rock classics such as L'Arc-en-Ceil are clear cut throughout, whilst maintaining a store core musical identity that is solely Yuta.
'Last Song' is a beautiful opening track, showcasing Yuta's more vulnerable side, backed by piano and strings. It is ... read more
When it comes to NCT, all you need is one sample and a dream.
The title track wasn't quite what I expected but I found it growing on me despite the tinny production. BOTH SIDES is upbeat, campy and ridiculously catchy. It feels reminiscent of 2010s party music where everyone felt optimistic and joyful, and there's nothing wrong with that, especially at a time where the world feels a little oppressive.
I.D.O.L is a straightforward boy group track and could easily be an NCT Dream ... read more
another outrageously sleek album from donny benet, this time serving up some instrumental jazz fusion right on time for valentine's day. as usual, the basslines are absolutely groovy and addictive, leading the rest of the album, and once again proving how masterful the don is as a bassist.
il basso is a lot more cinematic than i was anticipating and i really enjoyed the experience, it feels easy to listen to but has a lot more hidden depth if you were to pay more attention to it. this ... read more
Chung Ha is one of my favourite soloists in k-pop due to her distinct vocal tone and charismatic stage presence. Save Me sounds like a long-forgotten mid 2010s EDM track, with introspective lyrics inspired by Chung Ha's anxieties and fears as she enters her 30s and whilst I love when a club queen reveals her vulnerable side, this song didn't impress me the same way STRESS did last year.
I'm not sure if Chung Ha wishes to branch out towards a more 'mature' concept and ... read more
People weren't exaggerating when they said Piss In The Wind consisted mostly of interludes and feels more like a collection of demos tossed together. It's a shame because there's evidence of alt-indie and club inspired concepts on this album that could've led to some decent music had they become fully fleshed out songs.
Yeah, this one is a huge miss for me.
Puscifer are my least favourite out of Maynard James Keenan's projects and whilst I (obviously) never go into a new album expecting to hear watered down Tool, I'm still hoping for a good time, but my second playthrough of Normal Isn't confirmed this album was a lot of hit or miss for me. I'll need to come back to this one when I find myself in the right mood for it.
The title track walks a fine line between absurd and downright goofy, but that's pretty much what you ... read more
Julia is a deeply personal album, given it is the first time in Ásgeir's entire career where he has opted to write his own lyrics, as opposed to collaborating with other artists and drawing upon his father's poetry collection.
Ásgeir's vocals are smooth like velvet, and the melodies are warm and lush.'Sugar Clouds' is a blissful throwback to the electronic inspired folk-pop landscape of Ásgeir's early career, incorporating an almost cathartic ... read more
What I love the most about Angel Du$t is how they push the boundaries of hardcore, experimenting with a broad range of genres and refusing to box themselves into a one signature sound. Cold 2 The Touch, whilst experimental, does not lose sight of the band's hardcore roots, consistently tossing out punchy vocals and two-step worthy breakdowns, whilst also branching into the realm of oldschool punk, classic rock, and breezy alt-indie riffs where you least expect it.
Clocking in just under ... read more
