Loved this. Almost a love child of Born This Way and What's Your Pleasure, with maybe a little bit of Voulez Vous in there I guess?
Rating 100 for hearing Big Sean say "yeah girl i'm a dick, addicted to you" because it is incredibly funny
Gotta subtract points for that line not being in every song
Brendon truly earns himself the title of American Morrissey on this record, where he proves his inability to function as a solo act. The only nice thing I can say about this is that Brendon definitely made an album with this one.
It is not Viva Las Vengance. I will give it that.
Is this as profound as her previous work? No, but it's not trying to be! It's trying to be some nice laidback summery music, and it definitely achieves that goal. I think if you go into this just expecting to have fun and enjoy some nice sunny relaxed vibes and sip on a nice tropical drink, you'll enjoy it a lot more.
As far as I'm concerned, this album is perfect, if not damn near close to perfect. This album is so damn pretty. It's a mysterious, playful, and vibrant journey.
She wants to be a gay icon, but it's simply never going to happen. Whoever told her she was "Mother" was lying.
It's fine. Leave it. It's fine. This album doesn't have any moments where I'm wincing in pain, but the moments where I love what I'm hearing are also few and far between. It's a very middling album, which is surprising because I've always wanted a synthpop album from Taylor, but it appears I've been monkeypawed here.
Lavender Haze, Bejeweled, Mastermind, and the 3am tracks with Aaron Desner are all lovely, but the rest of this album doesn't do much of anything for me. I think I need to let ... read more
I mean. It exists. Not all of it is as cringe inducing as "mommy don't know daddy's getting hot", but the project is bland overall. I can't tell whether the cringe-inducing tracks or the bland ones are worse. I'm happy to see Sam experiment and be more comfortable with themselves and their sexuality though - I can't fault someone for being themselves.
Project is by no means perfect, I detest "Ain't No Love Song" with a burning passion, but it's a solid pop project nonetheless.
Giga and Mitchie M are both incredibly talented producers who make amazing music but this does not change the fact that this song sounds like overdosing on Adderall in a Justice store at the local mall. Shame that these two collaborating came out with a song that has all of my misophonia triggers in a 3 minute time span. This really could have been great.
Perfectly serviceable, if a tad generic. Decent enough dance-pop, though I wish the production had a bit more of a unique edge. You don't really get to know much about Ava from this album the way you get to know Dua Lipa on Future Nostalia, Abel on After Hours/Dawn FM, or Gaga on Chromatica. It's a step in the right direction for sure, but she's still got a ways to go in terms of making great music, though she's got making good music down.
If she's choosing to go for more of a Kylie ... read more
