I'm just getting into Swans, so I decided to check out a Michael Gira side project for fun, and wow, this is incredible. It builds and has bursts of some of the most beautiful instrumentation I've heard in my life. It's insane. This is one of the most underrated albums I've ever listened to.
Firstly, fuck Alexis Marshall. He is a disgusting human being. With that said,
This album is terrifying, abrasive, and perfectly embodies what sounds to me like a psychotic break. At times it's a little too emotionally heavy, and a little too much in my opinion.
I see this record as a blend of CMIYGL and IGOR, in the sense that it meshes elements of Neo-Soul and R&B with more traditional and hardcore hip-hop. It's really good, and has got some of Tyler's best tracks, but it isn't as consistent as the two aforementioned records in my opinion.
