If you'd told me last year that Slowthai would be cancelled for about 24 hours, then salvage himself to the point of making a song addressing that head on with Skepta, then put that on an album that largely ignores most of the reasons we grew to love him, and that these introspective moments are pretty great... Controversially, I think this is their best release. The aggression and noisey house side of Daft Punk does more for me than their more Disco-y sound. By no means am i saying that Discovery is bad. It's incredible. This is just more for me. Less shrouded in mystery than any of their other releases because that's just not who they were yet, which is a shame. But the music itself just bangs.
Black Country, New Road haven’t discovered anything groundbreaking or been the first to implement an overwhelming amount of aggressive jazz saxophone into a noisy album. Instead, they do what they want, and in doing whatever they want… they do it very well.
