"Experimental Rap" and its just him rapping with the same repetitive candance and delivery over 2010s inspired dubstep instrumentals or overly abrasive and flashy instrumentation for no rhyme or reason other than to be flashy.
First album hes ever released where I genuinely didn't like it at all.
Sad to see.
Honestly Nevermind was bad because it was super boring and showcased uninspired attempts at dance music. This album is bad because it is embarassing how bad his actual efforts at making club anthems are. Id rather listen to Vultures 2
I am completely biased on this one because yes the material here is not near as groundbreaking or essential to the band's image, but I dont care. Every single song here is a banger. This is the album that got me in to Radiohead. Its still incredible, and some of the best art rock of all time.
Super disappotinging as someone highly looking forward to this album. Nearly every song is extremely mellow and laid back to the point where most songs blend together, feel very genetic, and boring. We get basically 0 showcase of his rapping (except for 719 freestyle) that I was really hoping to here. The feature performances are also really lackluster.
Movie is one thing, but this soundtrack is genuinely incredible and still feels underloved in the context of Daft Punk. The duo proves they really cannot miss.
On first listen I'm just pretty disappointed. The standouts are genuinely great songs but even still sound underwritten. So many songs here don't even crack the 2 minute mark and I just can't fathom why he really didn't take more time to actually give these songs on the pen they need to be great. Even the good songs like King, Father, and All The Love for example need way more writing. All The Love didn't even have an actual verse which I don't understand. The ... read more
Super underrated Dylan album. There are unnecessary live cuts, its not even close to his best writing, sometimes questionable vocal inflections, but most of the songs here are still very solid and good listens.
After the second listen I appreciate this album a lot more. I understand the annoyance/disappointment with J. Cole's melodic/singing performances in the second Disc, but to me it seems like he just wanted to fully dabble more into this sound one last time before the end of his career. The final track makes perfect sense, and has the exact sound you would expect right before the curtains close at a performance, and therefore to me makes sense why he went this direction. I think as time goes ... read more
After hearing PIXELATED KISSES I was looking forward to this album. It seemed like Joji was actually taking a bold shift away from his typical soft emotional cruning over bland instrumentation. Unfortunately I was baited with complete false advertising. PIXELATED KISSES and Sojourn are the only 2 songs with the style, and are also some of the only times where this album has a pulse. The rest of this album he is doing the same stuff he has been doing for years now, which unfortunately at this ... read more
After relistening, genuinely no idea how somone could think Don't Be Dumb is better than this.
At first I had this album at a 6 mainly because I could not stand Cameron Winter's voice, I didn't really dissect the instrumentation, and the lyrics in most of these songs didn't stick for me. Now I have relistened to it many more times and HOLY I was so wrong. I finally get it now. Now this is in the top 2 best albums of the year for me, and multiple songs in here are contenders for my top 10 songs of the year. I've really grown to appreciate Cameron Winter as a writer and ... read more
I feel that the fuzziness and distorted sounds you hear on this album is the epitome of ear candy. Incredibly addicting and repayable album.
First time ever listening to this band. You guys genuinely like this? This is some of the most boring rock I've ever heard in my entire life. Play for Today and A Forest is the only time this album shows a pulse. At first I genuinely thought I had accidentally played an instrumental version of the album.
