This album is a beautiful transition from the bubblegum pop vibes of Bonito Generation to a much darker and more realist approach to storytelling and album making, despite the darker turn, the album never loses its signature charm and still manages to make an album that can make me cry happy tears.
Fave Tracks: Time Today, Flyway, Dump, Dear Future Self, Swimming, Rest Stop
Least Fave Track: Make Believe
Phil Elverum is so good at making each album an entirely new experience. Whenever I put on a Microphones album I always know that they will deliver on composition, production, and performance to transport me into another realm. A realm where everything from the trees to the air to the grass beneath my feet breathes a new sound into the atmosphere and I just get taken away by their harmony. I'm usually not this pretentious with my album reviews, but this hits different. It's a 10.
Kendrick didn’t just make a catchy-as-hell west coast banger, he also didn’t just make one of the best diss tracks of all time, he didn’t just destroy drake’s reputation, he made a statement about how the African American community has been treated by people like Drake, as a tool. He made with this song a west coast anthem, a battle cry, an ultimate victory lap around drake’s grave marked with his untimely demise and it is god damn beautiful.
The greatest sound pallet I've ever heard in such a short amount of time.
