Daniel Caesar - Son Of Spergy
80

This was my first time listening to a Daniel Caesar album in full, but as a new Torontonian I felt it was my civic duty...and GODDAMN WHAT WOW!!!! I had heard some of his bigger songs before and none really jumped out to me, but this was beautifully produced and full of wonderful songs and touching lyrics. One of the biggest surprises of the year!

After - After EP 2
85

I'm normally not on board the Y2K nostalgia train but this kicked me out a fucken window. Sublime and deeply respectful to its influences.

The Last Dinner Party - From the Pyre
77

Really enjoyed this! Found it to be quite front-loaded and lose a bit of oomph as it went on, but this group is just so dang good.

Tame Impala - Deadbeat
48

Man I thought the Big Thief album was going to be my biggest disappointment of the year…

I’ll get this out of he way: I think Dracula is one of the best songs I’ve heard this year, and End of Summer really proves Kevin can make a purely-electronic bop. The problem is these two great tracks are surrounded by cringe lyrics, VERY forgettable melodies, and production that somehow sound straight out of GarageBand. It’s been said, but THIS IS THE SAME GUY WHO MADE SOME OF ... read more

Brian Eno - Liminal
65

Another year another 6.5/10 Brian Eno album lmao

Taylor Swift - The Life of a Showgirl
48

I recognize that Taylor’s music has never been my thing so I don’t want to join the hate-train here. This was pretty forgettable with some very cringe lyrics scattered throughout. I did like a handful of songs on it though!

Jeff Tweedy - Twilight Override
68

idk man I love Wilco but 2 entire hours of jeff tweedy solo material just becomes so samey so fast

SPRINTS - All That Is Over
79

Unsure why AOTY is so down on these guys, both their debut and this record are really excellent post punk! Incredible last third especially

Geese - Getting Killed
95

As an enormous fan of 3D Country but not the biggest fan of the singles for this, I'm so happy it turned out as well as it did. Deeply weird and groovy shit!

Maruja - Pain to Power
76

why is BCNR so angry? :(

DOOM GONG - MEGAGONG
90

I cannot express how thirsty I was for more modern psych-rock like this. A dirty cross of PPC, early Pond and early Gizzard while also being its own thing. LOVED

shame - Cutthroat
66

Forgot I listened to this one lmaoo

Big Thief - Double Infinity
70

Most disappointing album of the year for me :( I love Big Thief and see what they’re trying to do sonically, but none of these songs rank among their upper tier

Nick Drake - The Making of Five Leaves Left
90

Frankly nothing more exciting than listening to 3 versions of Day Is Done in a row

Nourished By Time - The Passionate Ones
74

Not exactly my thing but kept surprising me with every song!

Laufey - A Matter of Time
75

Frank Sinlaufa (I’m exhausted)

Blood Orange - Essex Honey
77

First half this is the most I’ve ever enjoyed a Blood Orange album, but second half really delves into what feels like a series of sonic snippets and is hard to really grasp. Great stuff though!
