This was my first time listening to a Daniel Caesar album in full, but as a new Torontonian I felt it was my civic duty...and GODDAMN WHAT WOW!!!! I had heard some of his bigger songs before and none really jumped out to me, but this was beautifully produced and full of wonderful songs and touching lyrics. One of the biggest surprises of the year!
I'm normally not on board the Y2K nostalgia train but this kicked me out a fucken window. Sublime and deeply respectful to its influences.
Really enjoyed this! Found it to be quite front-loaded and lose a bit of oomph as it went on, but this group is just so dang good.
Man I thought the Big Thief album was going to be my biggest disappointment of the year…

I recognize that Taylor’s music has never been my thing so I don’t want to join the hate-train here. This was pretty forgettable with some very cringe lyrics scattered throughout. I did like a handful of songs on it though!
idk man I love Wilco but 2 entire hours of jeff tweedy solo material just becomes so samey so fast
Unsure why AOTY is so down on these guys, both their debut and this record are really excellent post punk! Incredible last third especially
As an enormous fan of 3D Country but not the biggest fan of the singles for this, I'm so happy it turned out as well as it did. Deeply weird and groovy shit!
Most disappointing album of the year for me :( I love Big Thief and see what they’re trying to do sonically, but none of these songs rank among their upper tier
Frankly nothing more exciting than listening to 3 versions of Day Is Done in a row
First half this is the most I’ve ever enjoyed a Blood Orange album, but second half really delves into what feels like a series of sonic snippets and is hard to really grasp. Great stuff though!
