Lorde - Virgin
80

Really shocked how much I enjoyed this! Lorde is back!

HAIM - I quit
70

Pretty big step down from their last record, but also pretty weird!? Like idk if I could really pinpoint what sound they were going for on this. A couple of great tracks surrounded by some hmmmpphh

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Phantom Island
88

Yes, yes, I know I’m biased - my name is what it is OKAY!

This is an album that really unlocks after 3-4 listens, and unfortunately a lot of you aren’t going to give it that kind of time. Between the ever-changing melodies and dense layers of instrumentation, it’s certainly overwhelming at first listen.

But when it really boils down to it, Phantom Island is one of Gizz’s most beautiful and ambitious records, one that captures what makes them the unabashedly unique and ... read more

Little Simz - Lotus
81

For some reason I wrote off Simz after not loving her last 2 albums, but this is incredibly artful and groovy stuff.

McKinley Dixon - Magic, Alive!
82

Wow the 2 best rap albums of the year dropped on the same day!

Frankie and the Witch Fingers - Trash Classic
84

Oh great now my drywall has even more holes punched into it

Jon Bellion - FATHER FIGURE
58

Gave this one a real chance because my good buddy was a big Bellion guy in high school and we’ve been waiting for the man to do something for years now.

Unfortunately, this reminds me a lot of Chance’s Big Day, where it’s generally very messy and features some truly weird production and songwriting decisions that often don’t work. Bellion’s lyrics can come off very cringe too. Hoping for the best for the guy, but it’s been downhill since Hand of God imo

yeule - Evangelic Girl is a Gun
68

Solid all around but I really prefer yeule's music when they're experimenting more

Alan Sparhawk - Alan Sparhawk with Trampled by Turtles
82

I love Low and Alan's music a lot already but this nevertheless really floored me! So beautifully performed and written, and Alan's voice has never sounded better imo

CIVIC - Chrome Dipped
50

You know, I quite liked the past few CIVIC albums, but this is unfortunately really boring and forgettable. I don’t remember a single song after first listen.

John Michel - Egotrip
77

Super impressive stuff, and probably my favourite rap album of the year so far!

Foxwarren - 2
88

Andy Shauf has literally never put out a mediocre album and this continues his streak! So sonically inventive and a true joy to listen to. I can already tell I'm gonna be playing this one all summer!

Ty Segall - Possession
72

One of Ty’s more straightforward and exciting works in years! Where Three Bells felt wonky and a little forgettable in his catalogue, this is just a damn good time!

Stereolab - Instant Holograms On Metal Film
80

Man this made me SO HAPPY! Groovy, inventive, uplifting, silly, beautiful, AAAHH

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets - Carpe Diem, Moonman
78

The best album PPC has released since 2019! Every time I feel like I’ve given up on this band they hit us with a sonic switch-up and I’m so thankful that these guys just keep going

Paul Simon - Hearts and Bones
75

Not my favourite Paul Simon record, but Train in the Distance and Johnny Ace are fucking tremendous

The Vernon Spring - Under a Familiar Sun
63

New reading music just dropped

Arcade Fire - Pink Elephant
42

Like sorry but what the fuck is this?? Like what was even the approach? How are these the same guys make The Suburbs or Funeral?
