Was a huge Beths fan a few years ago, but got busy with other music since then and was excited to hear some new stuff. This contains all their signature quirks, and it definitely has some excellent songs, but feels rather slight compared to some of their other records. Honestly could have been B-sides from their last album. Still nobody doing it like them though!
I honestly don't know why I keep trying with Earl, he's never been my thing and continues to not be
Mac! I was rooting for you to make something that was better than a 6/10! Why can't you make a 7! It's been years!
EDIT: lmao
Good fun, but the flow of the album is super clunky! It’s kinda clear that JVB didn’t know what to do with the slower cuts, which come out of nowhere and then are quickly steamrolled by more high BPM shit.
Honestly? Shit rules. Osees take the best parts of their last 3 albums and smash them together into something at once fresh and familiar. Really hoping they tour this one!
man AOTY goes absolutely ballistic for maximalist albums, like every song that has 200+ tracks layered on top of each other instantly gets a 97 lmao
Big surprise! I liked what I've heard from Kokoroko but this was so groovy and fresh
Most I've enjoyed an Alex G album on first listen! The production and instrumentation are so fun, sounding like late era Elliott Smith
I've become quite a fan of these guys over the last year and this was a lot of fun! The middle chunk is definitely weaker than the beginning and end, but tracks like Big Time and Telephone keep it afloat
Hard to rate this one. It’s technically quite good and in a genre I typically like, but there’s something about this that just doesn’t click for me
The Once soundtrack is in my top 5 favourite albums of all time and I've been following pretty much everything Glen and Markéta have done since. This is very different from what they've done in the past - they've tapped into a softer, slower, more instrumentally-dense sound that reflects how they've matured as artists. Admittedly, I miss the energy they brought to their songwriting earlier in their careers, but this is still a gorgeous record. Pretty Stories might be ... read more
Not sure how I'm feeling about this one on first listen, but it's nice to hear Clipse back! Pharrell's beats are the best they've been in a while too
