Deftones - Deftones

I've definitely gone full 180 on this album after having relistened to it recently, and it's for the better. It's beyond underrated, and has some amazing highlights on it like Hexagram, Deathblow, Bloody Cape, and ESPECIALLY Minerva, with it not even really having any skips on it if I'm being honest. This album excels in being emotionally raw, while also having a ton of variety on it. Just to go into detail with a few songs: Hexagram, as mentioned before, probably hits top 3 ... read more

Swans - Filth

As my first Swans album, I didn't really know what to expect, especially considering this one is only 36 minutes compared to their usual hour+ albums, and at first I was very conflicted on what to think. When I initially listened to Stay Here, I loved the raw sound and vocals, I felt like it tended to drone on and not really do too much with the main concept. Then, I got to Big Strong Boss, and it started to click with me. This album is the definition of its name; it's heavy and ... read more

J. Cole - The Fall-Off
85

As my second J. Cole album (first being 2014 Forest Hills Drive), I'm genuinely blown away by not only how much he's improved, but also just how consistently great this album was all throughout. With that said, let's get into the first half

Disc 29: While J. Cole is reflecting on his life and career this entire album, this disc's main theme is him reflecting back on his life and how he used to be, and lyrically, it is incredibly on point with that. Great examples of that is ... read more

A$AP Rocky - Don't Be Dumb

This was... not really worth the wait. Going into this album I was pretty hyped, with Helicopter being a really strong single and Punk Rocky, while not being that great, was still pretty alright. Unfortunately, the main album on average is usually worse than the latter. A lot of songs can be split into 3 categories:
-Boring: Order of Protection, The End, and unfortunately even Fish N Steak, with an incredibly weak Tyler feature
-Ruined: Playa's outro being way too long and overall messy, ... read more

IShowSpeed - Speed Gang

While overall I didn't enjoy it, I feel like it wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be. Head Shot (only that half) and Big Girls especially were surprisingly decent, and even at its worst it's just painfully boring. With that said, the beats are overall not great, and Speed himself can't really write a compelling song. Along with that, his singing ranges from fine to pretty terrible, but all of this usually depends on the song. Overall not great, but surprisingly okay for ... read more

Broken Hearts Review Pt. 2:

Take everything I said about Broken Hearts 2, and put that on a grander scale. The beats are much more gripping, and even prettier, while Lone is a lot more expressive and lively on this album in comparison to before. Despite its length, being close to twice the length of the last Broken Hearts project (which was a deluxe in itself), it still stays just as consistent as before, really only faltering towards the end with a missed potential track in open it up, and ... read more

Destroy Lonely - </3²

Broken Hearts Review Pt. 1:

For my first Lone album, I was pleasantly surprised with how good and consistent this was. While lyrically, Lone is pretty average, only dropping a few funny or out of pocket bars here and there, I think what makes him unique on this project is just how well he slides on each beat. He brings a certain vibe to each track that a lot of artists don't usually provide, and for that I think that's what makes this album so unique. Not to mention the production ... read more

$uicideboy$ - THY KINGDOM COME

Recently I’ve been listening to a lot of $B, both new and old stuff, and what I’ve been appreciating about their newer stuff is the overall consistency and higher quality of the main albums. However, something that they never really did was variety. They tended to be consistent in their sound, with the height of that being New World Depression. With this album however, they decided to dabble in all sorts of different sounds, while still staying consistent with their core ideas. With ... read more

OsamaSon - psykotic

So recently (thanks to my friends) I've become pretty tapped in with the rage scene, and I wanted to finally jump in head first into a full album, so I thought why not this one? The first thing that needs to be addressed is the production on this thing, with it being far and away the best part about this project. While the rage standard of heavy bass is here, a lot of these beats are more distorted and abrasive, with a lot of ugly tones and the components of each beat being beyond ... read more

Insane Clown Posse - Dead Bodies

Honestly I was putting off listening to any of their new stuff but I thought fuck it why not... I immediately regret my decision. This shit is just pure ass, and the only positive is that they've made worse songs on Missing Link

Lil Darkie - USD
20

I have to admit something: I knew what I was getting myself into when I decided to do a 2 part review, as I had already seen the reviews for USD, and saw how atrocious people found it to be. I wanted to even it out with a positive listen right before it so that I didn't feel bad for probably having to rip into this one. Now to see how bad this really is

Part 2: USD
On the bright side, it's not as bad as Darkillinger so that's a plus I guess. When THAT'S THE AMERICAN WAY! ... read more

Lil Darkie - yang

So my relationship with Lil Darkie's music has been... interesting to say the least. I was very into him during my junior year of high school, and even during the period where I "hadn't matured out of his music", I definitely could still think critically on which of his albums were good and which ones were... yikes. Even with that said though, I really never found his music to really be that cringe or that bad when it comes to the stuff I did enjoy, and I honestly still feel ... read more

Tyler, The Creator - DON'T TAP THE GLASS
75

So going into this, I didn’t know what to expect. The last album of his that truly didn’t have a concept behind it was Cherry Bomb, so I didn’t really know what to expect here, and I was surprised for sure. There are some tracks with really out there production like Sugar On My Tongue, Mommanem, and the title track, while others that are more of the Tyler style soul sound we know while also having a few extra touches like I’ll Take Care of You and Ring Ring Ring. Overall ... read more

Converge - When Forever Comes Crashing
85

While a lot more messy and less consistent than what they would put out later, the personality of this album and the core “converge sound” still shines through, and is a really great listen all throughout. Jacob Bannon’s vocals are amazing as always here, and the guitar work has that harsh and ugly sound that I love from the band. The breakdowns also a highlight on this album, being pretty unique and while not always being as consistently great as the ones on Jane Doe or You ... read more

Deftones - Koi No Yokan

In celebration of the new single (which is a banger btw), I wanted to listen to one of the Deftones albums I surprisingly hadn't heard yet, and it was amazing to say the least. This is probably right below Ohms for me, with a completely different vibe from the rest of their discography. This album feels beyond emotional, with the guitars feeling heavier than ever and Chino's vocals feeling some of the most powerful ever. I have to think more on the individual tracks and see how they ... read more

ISSBROKIE - BOMINATION!

This album is good, but it also proves why I don’t listen to much Brokie anymore. The music itself is good, and if anything, this is one of her more consistent albums, but I feel like she’s consistently just pretty good, nothing better. I’m not gonna be one of those fans who are like “her old music is better” cause honestly, this is still better, but it also seems to have hit its ceiling. Every album of hers, no matter how consistent and how fresh, still ... read more

David Bowie - Low

Honestly, I wasn’t planning on writing a review on any of the albums I listened to today, but I wanted to express how great this album was. My context on Bowie wasn’t huge, only having known a few a songs, and never having listened to a full album. So, since I had time, I listened to… Ziggy Stardust, which while it has some amazing moments, was only a good album for me (probably a 7.5 or 8). Then I listened to this album and I was blown away. The synths bring this album to ... read more

At The Gates - Slaughter of the Soul

Some of the best death metal I’ve heard in a MINUTE. This album is fucking fantastic, and I love how fast it goes by, mainly due to the perfect length of the tracks. Nothing overstays its welcome, and because of that it really makes all the positives about this album stand out even more. The main positives are the vocals and the guitars, with the vocals being a very emotion filled type of screaming, and are incredibly unique. As for the guitars, they give some of the catchiest riffs ... read more

This feels like the thrash metal that was coming out at the time, but 10x more brutal. This album is relentless in all aspects, from the lyrics, to the screams, to the still mindblowing solos. There is a slight issue of the songs kind of blending together and sounding similar to each other, but I think this album’s short runtime definitely mitigates that problem. Besides that though, this album is a metal classic that everyone should listen to if they love metal

Ween - The Pod

Honestly, while Pure Guava is musically more coherent and overall more pleasing to the ears, I definitely prefer how batshit insane this album is. From THE STALLION, MANG, to pork roll egg and cheese, this album has a lot of comedic bits sprinkled all across it, and is an incredibly enjoyable experience. I also enjoy how over the top the vocals are, with some songs having whispers or even a mocking emo type voice (on Mononucleosis), which all compliment how over the top and goofy the lyrics ... read more
