The Tortured Poets Department took everything I liked about Midnights and got rid of it, while keeping the bad parts. The songwriting leans cringy at times and the production falls flat. Boring is the best way to describe this album.
Midnights is another bland synth-pop album from Taylor Swift. Its production left much to be desired, but, most of the time, the songwriting and catchy hooks make it a pleasant enough listen.
The follow-up to folklore fails to fully live up to its predecessor. While I do not think this was as good as folklore, it still was far from bad. evermore still delivers on songwriting and has a few songs that would be some of the best in folklore. Even though it isn’t quite as consistent for me, it’s still Taylor Swift at her best.
After dropping the extremely mid album that is Lover, Taylor Swift decided to lock in and stop trying to create bland pop. For this project Swift decided to lean in to the reason she was interesting in the first place, her songwriting. This album is my favorite of hers along with Speak Now, but this album does not take the same autobiographical approach as that album. This album is composed of masterfully conceived fictional stories. This great songwriting, coupled with slow and melancholy ... read more
Wow this album has some slop on it. The lead single, ME!, is so soulless and dead behind the eyes it is truly puzzling how it was ever given the greenlight. The rest of the album is better, but not by much. Besides a few standout tracks, the album ranges from boring to very bad.
Taylor Swift's attempt to be edgy just comes off as cringy. This album is full of dull and boring tracks. That being said, there are some good songs and I feel like this gets overhated a little bit.
I like that she fully leaned into pop and didn't try to do what she did on Red again. There are song really good pop songs on here, but the lyrics are uninspired and the production is stale most of the time.
This album did not interest me like Speak Now did. It is not nearly as consistant. I feel like this album is really more transitional than exceptional. This sometimes feels like a really disjointed playlist. There are some songs that I just have zero interest in at all. That being said, there are some great songs that are expertly written. You can definitely the new maturity that Swift has. I think this album’s mess barely works because it is all through the lens of Taylor Swift, which, ... read more
A major improvement from her previous two albums. I think I liked that it was less country and leaned into a more rock sound. The album being penned solely by Swift is not only a showcase of her songwriting ability, but makes the album feel very autobiographical. This has some great highs and remains interesting throughout, even in its low points.
A step up from her debut, but far from her most interesting work. This album has some catchy songs, but it was still too boring to be anything great.
Taylor Swift had a fake country accent and a dream. Her debut is not offensively bad, just lacking anything interesting outside of a few songs. This is a truly impressive feat for her age, however, and showed her great songwriting potential.
