Had to raise my 87 to a 92. This album is genuinely astounding, with an intoxicatingly raw sound that makes it stand out amongst the rest of MCR’s discography.
While other records of theirs are perhaps stronger conceptually or technically, there is a mesmerizing energy of desperation and intensity here. Simply put, nothing hits quite like this. I could never get sick of it.
Each of MCR’s four albums excel in vastly different ways, and each would be a worthy and understandable first ... read more
I liked this record quite a lot! As the only other review on here mentions, the Vespertine influence is very clear, but Simon does not simply imitate; she makes it completely her own. It’s ambitious, impressive and thoroughly engaging. There are times when the vocals are eerie and discordant, making for gorgeous, haunting moments, which she balances out very nicely with some of the faster paced tracks. It’s eccentric, intentional, and all around rewarding to listen to.
Superscar’s been stuck in my head for a while, and since I’ve heard people predict that ADÉLA’s gonna be big soon, I decided I might as well check this out. I’d say the songs here range from decent to great, but for me what really stood out was her undeniable star power. I’ll be sure to keep up with her, and I won’t be surprised if she blows up like people are saying.
(Also, was that a Björk sample in DeathByDevotion??)

I’m so late to this
My expectations going into this album were moderate; I thought I’d enjoy this and understand the acclaim it’s earned, but that I wouldn’t be quite as taken with it as some people seem to be. I’m happy to say that I was wrong. I really loved this! It’s fun and catchy, but also incredibly honest, and it makes for such a compelling listening experience. There really is so much to love here. I finally understand the hype
This isn’t the kind of music I typically listen to, and I wasn’t totally sure what to expect going in. Happy to say I liked this a lot! Short and sweet, which worked for this record in my opinion. Highly recommend
Considering how much I love Chappell, it’s really a disgrace that, even though I already knew the majority of these songs, I hadn’t listened to her only album in full until now. In my opinion, it’s damn near pop perfection and an incredibly impressive debut. She brings a refreshingly authentic and campy energy to a genre that has, in recent years, lacked a lot of the flair it was once defined by.
As the title implies, this record takes you on a journey. The opening track ... read more
Didn’t fully believe the hype. My bad damn. I really loved this
This is a stunningly good debut and I’m excited to see what she does next! The more I listen to some of these songs the more she grows on me. Diet Pepsi intrigued me when it came out, but Fame is a Gun was what really caught my attention and got me thinking this album, and Addison in general, were worth keeping an eye on.
I must say I’m thoroughly impressed with this record and entirely sold on her as an artist. While there’s certainly room for growth, I honestly believe ... read more
This is very much an album made by a teenager. A very talented teenager, no doubt, but angst and edginess seep through every last second of this album. This isn't a bad thing necessarily, but it does mean there are some aspects of this (lyrics and sound effects especially) that are hard to take seriously. I enjoy the production for the most part, but at some points it gets really grating. There are some really catchy tracks here and a few real bangers, but overall I don't see myself ... read more
I don’t hate Taylor Swift’s music. It’s not really my thing, but I largely see the appeal and I enjoy a good amount of her songs. So I promise I’m not just being a hater when I say that for me, this is the worst album of 2025 so far. It feels both juvenile and out of touch, and it’s painful to listen to.
It’s clear at this point that she’s entirely bought into her own hype, which is evidently to her detriment. At some points in this album, Swift feels ... read more
This is definitely a mixed bag of an album. I didn’t love it, but I think this band had potential and it’s a shame this seems to be their only project.
There are some tracks I enjoy a lot, but just as many didn’t work for me at all. This was especially an issue with the covers. This record has 6 original songs and 5 covers, and most of the covers just didn’t sound quite right to me. This applies even to the ones I’ve never heard the original version of. (I did ... read more
I’ve loved Supermassive Black Hole for a while now, so I figured I might as well check out the whole album. I expected I’d enjoy it enough, but that that song would be the clear standout. But damn, this completely blew me away. I instantly fell in love, which is pretty rare for me. This record is beautifully crafted, ambitious, and feels larger than life. There are parts so good I feel like I’m ascending. And they have two albums with even higher ratings than this one?? ... read more
Somewhat unpolished, which is to be expected seeing as this is the first album from a relatively unknown artist. There's definitely a lot of valid critiques that could be made about this, but I think the high points of this album reveal a lot of promise. She has a really interesting sound, and I find the stronger tracks (like With You, Know It Best, and especially Wow) very enjoyable.
Falters in some areas, but overall, this album is such a vibe. There's really no other way to put it. Obviously Champagne Coast is the standout here; it's one of the best songs I've ever heard, and its popularity is well deserved. Some others I enjoyed were Sutphin Boulevard, I'm Sorry We Lied, and The Complete Knock
Three of these five songs are fantastic. If it weren’t for the first and last song, this would easily earn a rating in the 90s. The first song is decent but pretty tedious; the final song just didn’t land for me at all. Maybe if it were half the length it would’ve been less egregious, but as it is, this track knocks my rating down significantly.
Still, the other three more than make up for this. They’re almost addicting to listen to and a ton of fun. My personal favorite ... read more
