Solya is a now 20 year old Alt/Indie artist from out of Texas, with this album, Queen Of Texas, being her debut. I think this is the third album now I’ve reviewed that’s a debut from a new up and coming artist, so there really isn’t much prelude to give. I kinda just found her and this album while I was perusing my usual areas a while back, and I thought her aesthetic and vibe was really cool, so I presaved the album and now we’re here.
If I could pick out a defining ... read more
Big Sosa himself, Chief Keef is back with his latest record, the shockingly well-timed Skeletor. This is Keef’s first album since sobering up on 2024’s Almighty So 2, which, alongside the preceding 4NEM from 2021 felt like a real rejuvenation of his sound, sounding the freshest he’s ever been since first breaking into the scene as drill’s great pioneer, making the then-incoming Skeletor something to really look out for. And Sosa pays that anticipation off, by making a ... read more
“Th- Thank You…
…Album Of The Year.”
“Album Of The Year?”
“Because… Umm… You discuss albums and rank the from best to worst every year.”
“Oh Yeah.”
After 18 years, quite literally out of nowhere, Alt-Funk Duo Gnarls Barkley returned with this latest, and last, album Atlanta. I really want to reiterate how out of nowhere this was, I was surprised to see this get announced and I don’t think anyone from any spectrum of either Ceelo Green’s or Danger Mouse’s fandoms saw this coming either. I wasn’t very optimistic on how good this album could be, especially over a decade and half removed from their last record and with ... read more
I like Luke Combs, he seems like a nice caring guy, probably one of the only big country guys I’d trust to be alone with at a bar, looks huggable. He has a few songs I like, like that Fast Car cover or that Where The Wild Things Are song, but he’s an artist who works nicest in short sessions, like 45 minutes or so. So tell me why this album is 73 minutes long.
If you really want a clear idea of how listening to this album felt, I didn’t look at the track list or album length ... read more
I hate to admit it but, going into Monica, Jack Harlow’s new album, I was really rooting for him. I’ve never been a big Jack Harlow fan, but ever since that “Tranquility” single from 2024 where he said plain text that he believes he hasn’t made anything incredible, something flipped for me. It felt like he wanted to do something greatest, and I kind of found that compelling and I wanted to see how that would come through in future music, especially with the ... read more
I don’t talk about it much, but Gorillaz is a band that means a lot to me. In a lot of ways, they’ve kind of helped defined what an artist is and can be for me, long before I even fell in love with music. One of the things that drew me to Gorillaz in the first place was the characters of the band, and how they will always live on, even after the actual people behind the music die. It’s a pretty morbid idea, but it seems I’m not alone in my appreciation of the band over ... read more
i Music Listen is the debut album from Mexican Alt Artist, iza tkm. I don’t really have much preamble to give, it’s one of the albums I heard of mainly through word-of-mouth and decided to check out from that. Probably unsurprisingly, I don’t know much about the Mexican Music scene outside of the few things that have hit the pop charts, so I also thought this would be a fun excuse to explore it more, especially with its iza’s place in the Alternative scene there.

Exhumed is in that age range sweet spot for metal bands, where, for someone who’s too much in the metal scene like me, theyre the right age to be major and notable but neither young nor old enough to be relevant and/or iconic, they’re just one of those staple Gen X acts. I’ve always loved metal, but I’ve never been able to call it a favourite, mostly out of unfamiliarity with the wider metal scene, so I think it’s about time I actually listened to one of these ... read more
Folk-Rock’s inexplicable superstars are back with their most recent album… which I forgot to listen to for almost a month… I hope that doesn’t end up being prophetic! Early last year there was that whole trend of making fun of ‘stomp clap hey’ indie-folk type music, maybe this is also a trend with Mumford & Sons’ music as a whole I don’t listen to them, but this album sounds like if that genre grew up and became a dad. That sort of preachy ... read more
Spiral Staircase is the latest effort by rappers Larry June and Curren$y, and producer The Alchemist. This is a very, ‘as said on tin’ album. There’s no real surprises to uncover on this, what you’d expect from a collaboration with these three is what you get. It’s a very slick and nicely produced jazz rap/drumless album with Larry June and Curren$y rapping about the exuberant lavishness that defines their lifestyles. It’s not a bad album at all, I definitely ... read more
I didn’t know a ton about Ms. hemlocke springs before this album, I only checked it out in the first place because people I know were looking forward to it’s release I decided to bandwagon off that, but what immediately caught my eye, before I even listened to her music, was her whole aesthetic. She’s kind of this blend of Manic Pixie Dream Girl, Black Queerness, Theatre Kid Energy and 2000s Tween/Teen Girliness vibes that I’m both surprised has never truly been ... read more
In spite of all the mess her family has been this decade, Willow has been an increasingly pleasant presence. From the alt and punk rock vibes of her earlier stuff, the really experimental things she’s was doing on that most recent album, it’s been really fun seeing her artistic progression over this current decade. So it’s really unfortunate to say I was not a big fan of this newest album from her, petal rock black.
This album is kind of a continuation of the experimentation ... read more
I’ve been trying to newer Kpop albums more recently, with… varying… results, and so that’s lead me to this new IVE album, REVIVE+. I’m unfortunately not too familiar with the group, all I really know is that they’re one of the bigger new name girl groups, that’s it, but what better way to familiarise myself. The album itself is structured into two halves, with its first 6 tracks being group songs, and the last 6 being solo tracks for each member, ... read more
This has been terrorising my Instagram fyp for like a weak straight now
I’m not sure what’s funnier though, the fact that this is genuinely a really good song or that almost all the videos that I keep getting recommended that use it are McLennon (Paul McCartney x John Legend) ship posts
I think, for the most part, it’s a really embarrassing sign for you as an artist if someone can listen to your album only once, and say that they think that single gives them an adequate enough understanding to write a full review on album. That’s how I felt coming out of this new Brent Faiyaz album.
Icon is Brent Faiyaz’s decently long awaited 3rd album, following 2022’s Wasteland. Brent has really solidified his name as one of the most beloved and acclaimed artists in ... read more
I think we need to like, all of us, collectively give Mitski a hug. It’s really because anything specific has happened to her but like, you don’t consistently make music this sad and not need a hug. Anyways this album, Nothings About To Happen To Me, is Mitski’s latest album, coming just under 2.5 years after her incredibly successful 7th album, The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We.
As a follow-up to that album, Nothings About To Happen To Me feels, aesthetically at least, ... read more
JVB returns with a deluxe of their best album, featuring some of their best songs yet
MAN BITES DOG is the long-awaited debut album by Electronic Duo femtanyl. For people unaware of them, Femtanyl is one of the artists I like to classify as ‘Queer-core Electronica’. What that means exactly is this type of experimental electronic music, sometimes leaning towards being harsh other times more atmospheric with very little in-between, usually with general inspiration from breakbeat/breakcore that’s deeply infused with the inherent defiance and angst of Queer art. ... read more
I’m a brand new development to the bbno$ mythos… self loathing!
Anyways I know this new stylistic turn has been a bit divisive among some people, some say he’s doing the white rapper special of abandoning rap, but personally I’m really liking this new alt/indie sound he’s really developing, and I’m very excited to see how it develops into potentially his next album
