He did it… he actually did it… After like over half a decade of making what can be charitably called as shitty music, Dababy actually made an album that isn’t undeniably ass. For those who forgot about Dababy after 2020, which is fair, lets just say this decade so far hasn’t been great for him or his music quality, especially that last album oh god, so i was pretty surprised when i saw decent fanfare over this album’s singles, and I was even more pleasantly ... read more
I’ve never actually listened to an A.G. Cook project before, which is probably a bad thing given how prolific he is in the hyperpop scene, and as the executive producer of one of my favourite artists, Charli XCX, so why not start with his uh… Charli XCX movie soundtrack yeah sure.
I mean, it’s what you’d expect a soundtrack by a tenured and classical weird hyperpop producer for a movie about a fictionalized exaggerated version of a person whose persona is defined by ... read more
On the advent of his 7th album, DeBí TiRaR MáS FOToS, Bad Bunny was in a less than favourable position. Still relatively hot off the undeniable mega smash that was Un Verano Sin Ti from a few years prior, but still fresh off the heels of its follow up, nadie sabe lo que va a pasar mañana, an embrace of more contemporary western sounds that, both commercially and critically, was a quite of letdown when compared to the towering achievements of Un Verano Sin Ti. It was ... read more
AOTY Users try not to mass bomb music after the artist becomes controversial challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)
2025 was a pretty bad year for pop music, I think most people can agree on that, but one of its few shining lights was it’s freshman class. To me it’s one of the most impressive and potential-ridden ones we’ve had, arguably on a similar level to 2024, and few from that class really embody that feeling of artists to be invested in, like Leon Thomas.
Leon Thomas seems like the type of guy who has like 500+ “Do You Remember…” videos about him. Like there are ... read more
Someone called the album cover “born to shit, forced to wipe”-core. I’d like to annotate that and say, the whole album feels like that.
This a very dumb stupid album, and if I was a fan of Megadeth, I’d probably find this either middling, or outright dislike it, unfortunately this is my first Megadeth album. This is supposed to be the final album by the legendary Thrash Metal group, and it kinda shows, because this kinda feels like the band dicking around in the booth, ... read more
I don’t have a lot to say on this one lol. IDK’s one of those artists I’ve been wanting to check out but I haven’t had the chance, and this mixtape definitely justifies that interest. IDK has this great ability to make songs that manage to be very fun and replayable, while also containing writing that’s often quite intricate, complex and personal. This project also, like the rest of his, has a weirdly stacked feature list that combining of JVB, Black Thought, Pusha ... read more
I really didn’t have any expectations going in, and to that, it was about as good as I thought would be, but also somewhat surprising as well. I don’t think I’ve listened to anything Louis Tomlinson from after the 1D breakup, but I saw he was releasing an album and so I decided to check it out. For the most part it is a decently solid Pop-Rock/Brit-Pop album, and most of the tracks are baseline enjoyable, if also nothing especially memorable, but it also has some pretty ... read more
This album worries me. I really liked Poppy’s last album, Negative Spaces, which to my understanding was her most wholehearted foray into metal yet, and this most recent album, Empty Hands, is a continuation of that foray, but it feels pretty lacking. I found Negative Spaces to be a pretty unique and characterful approach from Poppy, and while I’m not saying they aren’t there for this album, the extent they are feels much lesser. I do still like this album quite a bit, hence ... read more
Let a white boy catch a vibe. This seemingly being the opener makes sense, it feels like something that’d ease you in to a much greater album
In an era of pop music where the uber glamorous, nigh undeniable female popstar is more and more becoming a thing of the past, I’ve come to really appreciate Sabrina’s place in pop music. She’s one of our last true commanding presences in this female-led pop scene. And her ability to make music that is shallow in its appeal yet has a lot of depth in its character, personality, and how one can enjoy the it, is one of a kind, especially in pop. To me, Sabrina is one of the most ... read more
After 8 years of anticipation, singles and an unhealthy amount of lying, A$AP Rocky finally dropped his 4th album, Don’t Be Dumb, and it is… really fucking weird. The current consensus I’m seeing is that people are pretty underwhelmed, which I mean, I guess after 8 years of hyping anything would be underwhelming, but I really feel that reaction doesn’t do justice to the album it’s for.
From full-on Post Punk, to heavy psychedelic experimentation, to a jazzy ... read more
Close enough, welcome back 2010s Ariana Grande. Like, yeah this is really well produced, it’s decently written and definitely paints a compelling picture of Madison as a figure, but this also just reminds me of other, better pop-stars that I could be listening to over this album, though mainly Ari. Like if I dissociated hard enough while listening to this, I think I could convince myself that this is a long lost mid-2010s Ariana album. The singles and the closer are by far the best songs ... read more
Oxnard is the 5th album by Rapper, Singer, Multi-Instrumentalist, Teeth Icon, Anderson .Paak, released in 2018.
I really should’ve liked this album more. I loved Silk Sonic, I’ve generally heard a lot of good things about this album, and I’ve really enjoyed most everything else I’ve heard from Paak. Yet with this album, I just can’t find that enjoyment for it, at least as a full project.
That first half of the album, tracks 1 through 7, save for ... read more
Literally one of the greatest pieces of prog music ever, I could listen to this front to back several times back to back
The stenchiest AOTY user you know will try and convince you this is a genuinely awful song that should be ridiculed, and you should be ridiculed for liking it
my neck hurts :(
Shout out my boy Grant for putting me onto this one 🗣️
I was pretty confident with what i thought were my favourite albums of last year and then slayr came from up top with a steel chair. One of the most truly manic albums I’ve ever heard. It’s just back to back to back of it topping what I thought it was capable, ‘holy shit’s upon ‘holy shit’s until the lord Godfather of dookie gracefully shits down from shit heaven to smite me to shit ... read more
One of the most consistently unique and bewildering albums I’ve heard in a while. I was doing work on my first listen of this and every now and then I’d just hear something wild and have to look up from my laptop to figure out what it was. There weren’t as many of this in the latter half, but it makes up for it a lot with a stellar 3 track run at the very end. The fact that this apparently inspired SpongeBob partially is wild, but I kind of see it. Def one of the albums ... read more
