One of my favorite hard rock albums, and my favorite punk album.
My favorite REM album. Many songs rock harder than anything else the band did in the 80s. Lyrics range from funny to moving. Listening to "Superman" is a great antidote to depression; on the other hand, "Flowers of Guatemala" evokes in me such a feeling of gorgeous melancholy that I wrote a sci-fi novella inspired by it.
Ultravox's foray into aggressive punk, and, with "Hiroshima Mon Amour", synth-based beauty.
