This album really surprised me with its sheer quality. Boards of Canada show they haven't wasted any time since their last project almost 13 years ago. Fair warning that this review is gonna be a stream of consciousness more than any cohesive statements; this is just how I feel right now about this project.
2026 so far has felt like the year of artists dethroning themselves. A poignant example of how your equipment doesn't matter at all if your ideas are good.
I unfortunately find that Ozone packs a punch just as much as it sheathes its sword. That said, I do love the spacey atmosphere of the record, and I find that this EP has a more 'metallic' sound compared to other similar electronic releases; the decision to allow high gain and compression in certain sections help develop that style quite well. I found the closer to be a little underwhelming. Overall, the tracks have a good amount of depth, but nothing of much note.
