MYTHM - NEWFORM
68

MYTHM's newest EP, while relatively enjoyable, often comes up quite short production-wise, especially in a post-Modal Nodes, post-Syzy, post-BVSSIC kind of world.

ASHES: 6.3/10
NECESSARY EVIL: 7.5/10
UNBROKEN w/INFEKT: 7.5/10

Break of Dawn: 8.7/10
The Real: 7.8/10

Nine Inch Noize - Nine Inch Noize
86

Looking forward to that full original project down the pipeline. This at least gives hope we can expect the A-game from both acts.

Loosid - FEEL IT
78

The best loosid track in years

HOL! - HARD IN DA PAINT
20

The fact that basically any other producer in the scene could've done a better job with a remix of this track makes it even worse tbh.

Virtual Riot - Burning Out
80

Returning with his third album, VR delivers perhaps the most compelling argument for me getting invested in his music to date. Finally creating a record through which I can see him, specifically, as a producer, rather than purely his influences. Doing so while not being dragged down by dated production choices (for the most part), and delivering just the right amount of variety across the tracklist for me personally.

Tiffany Day - HALO
72

Yeah, if all these acts keep up with this throwback sound going into next year instead of buying into modern day EDM standards, or at the very least deliver near-perfection in that older lane, don't be surprised if my reviews start skewing negative for this vein of electropop.

As it stands, this record is pretty decent though.

Fave tracks: PRETTY4U, BREAKUP, START OVER, IT'S NOT LIKE THAT ANYMORE
Least fave track: TELL ME WHAT I DID

Frost Children - SISTER (remixed)
72

ELECTRIC (Olswel Remix): 8.3/10
Falling (swedm Remix): 7.8/10
CONTROL (Saska Remix): 8.0/10
WHAT IS FOREVER FOR (The Dare Remix): 5.9/10 don't wanna see a single mfer give this a high rating while bashing on old TwoThirds songs.
Sisters: 8.2/10

Monstercat - Uncaged Selections 02
79

The second Uncaged Selections comp is not only on par with the first, it may very well be better in some areas, with a great variety on display across its tracklist.

Eccentric & Glitch Cat - funk of the week: 8.1/10
A really enjoyable fusion of synthwave and funk house with glitch house motifs, with a fun little moombahcore drop thrown in there for good measure.

IRXN - Feel the Pressure: 7.6/10
An enjoyable bass house cut with a fun little baile switchup in there. If i had a small ... read more

Omadhaun - Hornets
86

The year of Inspected continues with a pretty heavy hitting EP here from Omadhaun. Finding the producer more than equipped to take up the reins of his predecessors in the neurofunk scene, while also moving in his own fresh direction. A stripped down, bassline focused, atmospheric, and organic form of the genre that still shows plenty of room for growth even from here.

Hornets: 8.7/10
Through My Mind: 8.6/10
String Theory: 8.6/10
Vesuvius: 8.8/10
Internal Locust (Culprate Remix): 8.4/10

Dorian Electra - Young Folks
55

I don't even like the original so this was the one that had the most potential to actually draw me in.... But again it just comes off as doing the bare minimum. Why?

Ruby My Dear - Iterations
82

A comparatively more grounded release from the breakcore outfit, "Iterations" sees Ruby My Dear adopting more of a dingier, almost deconstructed club and Inspected-core sound in addition to their traditional loose breakbeat/core production. While not every track here I was head-over-heels for, all of them upheld the level of quality I've come to expect from them at this point, definitely recommend everyone giving this a shot.

Skrillex - Duro
84

The fusion of hardgroove techno with that euro-trance melody is tickling my trance bone very nicely.

BEJALVIN - SHOPLIFTING
100

Bejalvin making probably the heaviest song of the year over here and no one cares

Cybershock - MICROWAVE
72

P sure i would've hated this 3 years ago lol

Slayyyter - WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA
84

From the way some people talk about this album you'd think it was a Knocked Loose record but for electroclash/electropop. Nope! Just a really fun album in those genres, though this sound is becoming so thoroughly beaten into the ground at this point, I can't imagine me enjoying the next one nearly as much if it remains in the same vein.

Fave tracks: BEAT UP CHANEL$, OLD TECHNOLOGY, CRANK, $T. LOSER, WHAT'S IT LIKE TO BE LIKED
Least fave track: I'M ACTUALLY KINDA FAMOUS

Dorian Electra - Feel Good Inc.
49

It's better than the last single insofar as it has actual direction, and a couple actual kind of neat production choices...if you don't listen to EDM music...at all...

A shockingly safe cover ngl. Really wish this one went harder than it did.

"@voicelikehoney i don't hate all emo, some of the best albums I've ever heard are emo. Vocals are what tend to make or break this genre for me. I almost never go into a project expecting to hate it unless it's a project by an artist I follow regularly, And if I ever do I still hold onto the hope that I will still find something of value. Additionally, this was an album I happened to listen to on a stream. My opinion may have even changed on it at this point since it's been so long."

"Also i find it interesting you dislike Animal Instinct but like Breakdown, as I feel like our ratings are probably switched. Idk i think Animal Instinct has one of the most fun drumlines and melodies of any SW track from that era, while Breakdown is a limp, misguided headscratcher of a track for me, and it makes complete sense why the VIP would go on to completely overshadow it later."

"Ampersand actually wasn't on the original comp, instead it was pulled from the edm spotlight collaborative comp which came out the following year to fill in for the track House by OVERWERK, after he pulled that track from the label, you can still hear it on the album mix though. I will say that House is one of the better tracks on this comp as it was originally intended, though pretty aggressively 2012"

"@svse idk, I feel like music by KAIFU and JoeB (even Figure a few years back) manages to outdo Camellia in terms of intensity for me, it's nowhere near as fast paced usually, but to me they're the ones pushing bass music to its breaking point the most in the current environment (In JoeB's case its more about his odd rhythms). And i would also make the case that, while maybe not as busy, Kobaryo often manages to match Camellia in terms of intensity. I've been meaning to get into Diabarha for a while now, but what I've heard of their music has also come pretty close, albeit less varied."

"My journey with listening to music more seriously really started with EDM as well, Approaching Nirvana, Tiesto, and Daft Punk when i was young, before I found Monstercat and followed them religiously from 2015 until about 2022 when I branched back into some of the older hits I just never heard on the radio in my youth before finding Björk and getting hooked onto listening through albums over comps and EPs. After a year of binging through fantano's top 200 LPs of the 2010s, I found new ways to appreciate the music I'd grown up with, as well as a whole new selection of genres to listen to to prevent my experience with that music from ever going stale or myself becoming jaded towards it."

"There is a blatant production error in the first 20-30 seconds of the track, this is something not even Borgore has done with his deluge of terra-slop. A bad mix is generally all it takes to tank a riddim track in the present time, a production error is straight up inexcusable when being released on a major label."
