In the face of this song I can't confidently say that dubstep doesn't sound like farts tbh.

My hope is that the EDM haters learn and grow as individuals.
Alix Perez is back with a full album of dubstep bops (and adjacent genres). This album nails on that minimalist, ambient sound design which much of his previous work hit upon across the past two years had been gradually leaning towards, and on "Sabotage" I think he strikes pure gold with that sound palette. Right with the opener in "Cape Reinga" there's so much personality and clarity with what the track is going for, fusing organic percussion alongside traditional ... read more
What the song should've been from the start.
Still empty af though.
It's like RÜFUS DU SOL never left! (They haven't)
On that note, I require my prog house to have some meat on the bones these days, and this one falls short in that department.
Okay real talk I wanted to be able to call this peak and everything like the rest of the commentors here because i remember enjoying it back in the day, but like jfc this song is so obnoxious and badly produced, not in a charming way either. I will never forget "diggy diggy hole" though, so there's that ig.

grape milk's latest LP is yet another successful blend of their unique, hyperpop-inspired take on future riddim and bass music. While I am still somewhat mixed on their more atmospheric, less EDM-adjacent tracks, "medium" feels like the more egregious shortcomings of that side of their output has more or less been dealt with now. The sound design is as execellent and bold as ever here as well. This has culminated in a genuinely great album which I can easily see myself coming ... read more
Another very solid offering from the Anjunadeep family of artists.

The Star-Wars-themed, underground riddim producer who first started making ripples early last year, Modal Nodes is finally putting out a debut EP. Going into it, my expectations were decently high, but also tempered, as I personally didn't quite get the hype last year with the singles I heard. After several relistens however, the verdict is pretty clear to me: this EP is as much a potential disruptor to the scene as "A Blissful Gaze of Ignorance" was back in 2022, perhaps even ... read more
Femtanyl's newest project "MAN BITES DOG" is a wonderful blend of hardcore breaks and digital hardcore, including some nice footwork and acid motifs in there as well. More or less removing any critiques I may have previously had with their output; this record nails its aggressive, underground sound without ever feeling like it's going so overboard as to lose the plot. It captures a lot of what makes a lot of early 2000s hardcore EDM records so exciting to listen to, without ... read more
The first Instinct Selections comp is here! Honestly, enjoying this one even more than the Uncaged comp from January. Each of the underground acts chosen here all have me looking forward to whatever they might be coming out with next.
ROOTIME - Hollywood '84: 7.9/10
A really fun synthwavey nu disco cut. Atmosphere on this one is pretty gorgeous.

A very bright, cheery garage house track with some future house vibes to the drop. Also a pretty fun ... read more
TYNAN's debut LP comes almost a bit too late for it to have the impact I think the me from 2 years ago would've wanted. What was once near the front of of the pack in terms of creativity in briddim has now fallen back to being merely in the upper-end of the genre--the fact I can't really headbang anymore certainly doesn't help. That said, this is still a very enjoyable debut that doesn't take itself too seriously, and that dense, wild sound design that TYNAN has made a ... read more

A fun little juke project, there are a few annoying production choices that hold it back for me, but otherwise a really solid offering on display. I think that DIY/underground approach to the soundscape helps me to immerse myself in its best moments for sure.
