Its a pity I waited so long to properly listen to this. Its quite a beautiful album with some nice, yet sombre song-writing. Mac was a talent.
My Sweet Lord is one of the emotionally impactful songs I've ever heard. Its so personal to George, but somehow so relatable to anyone, no matter your religious or spiritual leanings.
The rest of the album too, is absolutely stellar. I love George's song-writing - here and on his Beatles songs. He really has such a knack for making catchy hooks and fun, yet deep songs.
Dam this is actually really good I had no idea. I really really have just been a Coldplay hater for so long, because, well they sort of have sucked for a while... right? Clearly once upon a time they wrote catchy, deep interesting songs. The song writing here is exceptional - each song has a strong hook. Especially in the first half of the track list.
The Cure finding their feet with this one. Quite punk-y, which is fun and energetic - the songs have a lot more pace than a lot of their later albums. Song-writing is a bit lackluster with a lot of similar sounding tracks on here but overall I think its pretty fun and catchy
Man this does kick ass, as Converge always do. Crazy how consistent their song-writing is, always managing to hit like a truck while sounding fresh and evolving but still true to itself
Critically, a really good album which is well put together and profoundly deep. In terms of enjoyment to listen to, its not up there with Plastic Beach or Demon Dayz imo. I just dont like the tonality of it and how deep it leans in to some of the Eastern influences. Just not my style - even if they do a great job of it and adds to the narrative of the album.
Incubus slightly change direction here, to some less metal inspired rock and lean more in to the romantic sounds that we have heard here and there through their previous two albums.
Its ok at times. Dig is really really catchy and super well written. Love hurts is pretty horrendous, same with the Earth to Bella songs, Diamonds and Coal and Paper Shoes.
The highs on this album are really high in my opinion. The production on Anna Molly is great - really one of their most underrated singles ... read more
There are some super catchy hooks on this album. The Choruses are consistently absolue bangers. Mikes guitar on this album is absolute peak, and this is really one of the best albums from Incubus from a musical standpoint.
They try some different things, as they venture slightly away from some of the safer sounds that resonated so well on Morning View, in to some more experimental song writing. Sometimes it hits. Sometimes it doesnt. Sick Sad Little world is literally one of their best songs in ... read more
I appreciate the band coming back to do this album. They clearly had a lot of fun doing it, and that comes through in the sound of the album. Its not polished, but its enjoyable and holds a lot of nostalgia value for a lot of fans. Even if its not your favourite Incubus album, it really is emblematic of a sound from that time and has some real emotional value for people who grew up with it.
I guess there isnt much reason to listen to this more than once though. The original sounds a lot better ... read more
My issue with Audioslave is that it some how managed to boil the talent of Chris down in to a generic Hard Rock singer. Brad and Tim continue to laydown a great rhythm section, if not a bit more stunted than what they are capable, but goddam Tom fucks around on this thing so much. Some of the Guitar Riffs are HARD and thats really cool but the stupid guitar solos are so silly and also all of the solos are predictable in the sense that you know that something is building up and you think ... read more
You can feel how much fun they had writing this album. Every song is a groove with each member really putting their full talent on display, but no overshadowing each other. The song-writing is done in a way which means that this is front and centre. Its not artistic, or deep - its just about making killer tracks that all sound good. Listen to this and tell me you dont think that the riffs, baselines and drum fills are what makes it good.
Its truly an example of a super group leaning in to the ... read more
Some of Elliotts most beautiful song writing. A seriously captivating album that lays the foundation for his amazing career. Every song is perfectly crafted, engrossing and deeply affecting.
No Name #1 is my favourite but everything here is a triumph in song-writing
This is a fun record that is absolute energy start to finish. The mash of TDEP and Mike Patton makes so much sense when you hear it - the absolute lunacy of Mike with the frantic energy of the band works so well here.
This one is fucking Groovy. It is also heavy. It is also beautiful.
The opening track hits like a gut punch. Launching immediately in to a heavy rift with vocals to match. By the end of the track we get some real groove come through, with higher guitars concluding the epic opener. This then carries through as we get a dynamic and enthralling dense masterpiece of musicianship and song-writing track to track.
YOU KNEW ALL ALONG GOD DAMMIT
Fuck this thing clicked and is like crack to listen to... I cant stop coming back to it even though its so stupid and silly. Fart noises and PARTY PARTY and random DJ Scratches but holy shit this is actually fantastic music.
