I came in to this expecting around a 6 or 7 out of 10 because I like Elton John, but never thought his music was crazy from the small sample size I had. However, the way the album starts immediately altered what opinion I thought I was going to have with Funeral for a Friend being a song that progressively gets more complex and active which is what I love in music, then you have some great songs in Flowers and Bennie with solid music all throughout. Another really high spot is the title track ... read more
It’s really a tough act to follow up a magnum opus lie Violator and somehow through many difficulties, DM still managed to put out another fantastic album like Songs of Faith and Devotion. That being said, some songs on here specifically Judas and especially Get Right With Me where on their own they are both good synth pop songs but comparing them to other songs on the album and what they came out with before and after are pretty forgettable for me. However, there are some near etherea ... read more
The whole album is really great vibe music to do work while playing in the background while still providing great lyricism throughout when present.
It’s such a grimy experience that doesn’t feel like an 1hr and I love it.
Depeche Mode are one of the best bands when it comes to mixing a pop sound into a dark; moody/haunting atmosphere and Black Celebration was where this started and both Music for the Masses and Violator take this blend to the absolute limit without either trying too hard or too little and Gavin that happy medium. It’s most evident from the first five songs where Never Let Me Down Again is the most poppy song and it progressively gets darker building into Little 15 which to me is the most ... read more
While I don’t think this project is all that good, I can still respect it for what it is and represents. The band was trying to go in a different direction and adapt the more prog like sound and style that was first done with The Stage and be more experimental in comparison to the metalcore stuff from their early career. What goes wrong here however, is what I would call going too hard on the experimental side and it ends up sounding a bit like a mish mash of too many different sounds and ... read more
I never really tried much foreign music, but seeing as this project/band is focused around WWI I decided to check it out and wow I am impressed and glad I did. Each of the songs tie into either what would be involved during war like Waffenbruder meaning brothers in arms or specific battles like the short radio transmission during Verdun. Outside of that the songs are able to have a blend of being really heavy when they need to be, and also have melodic and catchy elements.

While the sound can come off as generic, this was a massive step-up from their last two projects and didn’t feel like a Billy Corgan passion project, and more like a classic Smashing Pumpkins project along the lines of Machina.
FAVORITE TRACKS: Edin, War Dreams if Itself, 999
LEAST FAVORITES: Goeth The Fall, Who Goes There, Pentecost.
The album is whatever for the most part with a couple decent songs. Outside of that however, songs are generic and from the Pumpkins I expected something more interesting even if they’re past their prime musically.
Camila sounds like she didn’t even want to make this project and is doing it out of obligation from Brat’s success. Also the Drake songs are wack.
This is definitely a product of its time, a lot of the instrumental and vocal performances throughout this project sound like an early 2000s nu metal band in all the wrong ways, a lot of songs sound like different variations of "Down with the Sickness" which in itself doesn't sound as good as I remember, with the domestic abuse breakdown sounding even more cringe and unnecessary than it did before. The "animalistic" style/delivery that David is going for doesn't ... read more
I do not know what compelled Roger Waters to go back and try and “improve” Dark Side of the Moon when in reality he took away all soul and enjoyment that was present in the original DSOTM, while also displaying his very old age.
Björk both vocally and overall sonically, was able to create a beautiful sounding project from start to finish and Homogenic as a project takes you on a musical journey that leaves you wanting more, and for me I believe a majority of the songs on here could go on for hours and I wouldn’t find myself bored at all.
FAVORITE TRACKS: Bachelorette - Family Tree Version, Alarm Call, and All is Full of Love

I like the funny Coney Island man.
