Experimental Hip Hop? Conscious Hip Hop? Jazz Rap - well, whatever comes to mind, it feels like Kendrick incorporated a long history of African American music all blended together. However, To Pimp A Butterfly is much more than just its genre; it's Kendrick's Musical Thesis (or Political Commentary if you will), surrounding African-American culture, racial inequality, depression, and institutional discrimination. Now my score for this one is slightly affected by my sentimental value for the album.
