Experimental Hip Hop? Conscious Hip Hop? Jazz Rap - well, whatever comes to mind, it feels like Kendrick incorporated a long history of African American music all blended together. However, To Pimp A Butterfly is much more than just its genre; it's Kendrick's Musical Thesis (or Political Commentary if you will), surrounding African-American culture, racial inequality, depression, and institutional discrimination. Now, the reason he'd chose this subject matter, is said to be that ... read more
Now my score for this one is slightly affected by my sentimental value for the album. This was my comfort album in the late 2020 early 2021 period, which I gather was a little bit depressing for a lot of people. It really cheered me up in that dark time of COVID, even it's not a masterpiece; but I wasn't expecting it to be. I actually think on their first album, Imagine Dragons actually knew their sound, and knew how to play to those strengths unlike later efforts. This mostly sticks ... read more
Man... we're never getting more of this. As such, in some ways, that sentence says more about this short project than I could ever explain. Just the fact that it feels like Kanye West himself goes through about three years of life in one, and has done career ending damage, which he's only starting to come back from and apologize. I won't speak to if things will ever be the same, but it would heavily hinge on his relationship with Kid Cudi.
BUT... moving on to the album; FIRE on ... read more
Yeahhhh, so… I think the reason why so many people on this site hate on Get Rich or Die Tryin’, could be both partly down to the general reception of discography… & to the fact that it’s certainly a product of it’s time. I do think that the beats are distinctly 2000-2004, along with the fact that you can just tell this is a Shady Record from them alone, & by association, Dr Dre’s influence.
Now, I must admit, 50 does fall into the cliches of the ... read more
I have many things to say about this album.
I think it's great! If only it was trimmed a bit, to make a more cohesive & digestible album.
That said, just because it's a bit too long, doesn't mean it isn't my favorite Juice album... as it is.
While I still enjoy Goodbye & Good Riddance, it suffers a bit too much for me with its heavy subject matter, meaning that its almost a bit too difficult a listen at times. As I mentioned in that review as well, I feel that a ... read more
I have a few thoughts about this album, but let me get this out the way first; I first discovered Juice WRLD in late 2020, and was around 13/14/15 years old throughout the time I listened to him more heavily. so essentially, this is more of a retrospective than anything else. Although it does also mean that I don't have the same feelings as I would have had back then to connect with it so well aka. sad boi, especially as Covid was a bit depressing. This review also focuses on the 5 Year ... read more
Wow, this is amazing; an incredible reflection on what it means to simply 'Be', as a human, and in purpose. This is in wonderful collaboration with Kanye West on production (this album was originally on GOOD Music), with help from J Dilla, of which both producers' influences can be very clearly heard. Kanye had once said that Common was the "Marvin Gaye of Rap", and it shows. I can't explain it, but it gives off similar vibes at points, especially on songs like: ... read more
As it's a short track list, for this one, I'll do a track review!!!
Wanna Be Startin' Somethin': this exudes so much groove it's craaazyyyy - as an opener I wouldn't have picked anything else. This is one of those where you know it is the epitome of an amazing party-starter opener.
My two favorite moments from this: "You're a vegetable" (what bro?) + the chanting at the end (very cultured).
Baby Be Mine: Wow! This one is so underrated; at least, ... read more

I ADORE Coloring Book; it exudes joy and happiness from the seams. It's got moments of hype and pure happiness (e.g. No Problem), but it's also got chill summery song (e.g. Summer Friends). It's got wonderful influences, mostly from Chance's Christian Faith (How Great makes me feel like I'm in Church), and a little bit of "I love my wife!!!!" (no ironic foreshadowing at all) - at least it's not Big Day levels lol. I flip flop between calling this & ... read more
