Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life
99

THE GREATEST TO EVER DO IT.

We’re speaking about an album I consider the pinnacle of music history, something I genuinely cannot imagine ever being topped. To me, it feels greater than life itself. From an artist I already regard as one of the greatest of all time, if not the greatest, this is Songs in the Key of Life by Stevie Wonder.

Widely considered both the peak of Stevie Wonder’s career and one of the greatest albums ever made, this record contains everything. Love, ... read more

ARE YOU EVER DEAD IF LIFE IS A DONUT?

Today’s review is a different one. We’re looking at Donuts by J Dilla, widely regarded as one of the greatest hip-hop producers of all time. He released this album three days before his death, seemingly intending it to be his final statement. What makes that especially interesting is that it’s entirely instrumental.

Reviewing an instrumental album is different from reviewing a traditional one. There are 31 tracks packed into 43 minutes, ... read more

Baby Keem - Ca$ino

HE'S BABY KEEM!

After five years in the making, Ca$ino arrives with real pressure behind it. Baby Keem has been one of the most anticipated young names in hip hop, especially after The Melodic Blue, an album I revisited quite a lot. So when the rollout began, documentary included, it felt like we were about to get something more mature and more personal.

And for the most part, we did.

No Security

The album opens in a focused, introspective space. Keem immediately leans into conscious ... read more

Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

MAYBE ONE OF THE MOST EXTRAVAGANT ALBUMS OF ALL TIME ?

We are talking about what many consider Kanye’s magnum opus. An album frequently placed among the greatest of all time. An album equally accused of being one of the most overhyped projects ever released. For me, it is undeniably influential and foundational for a generation of artists that emerged after 2010.

This is My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, released in 2010.

The album was born out of chaos. The death of his mother, Donda ... read more

Kanye West - The College Dropout

YE THE GOAT NO 🧢?

The College Dropout is the debut album from one of the most hyped, decorated, and undeniably influential artists of all time, Kanye West, currently known as Ye.

Revisiting his discography now feels complicated.

Three or four years ago, I would have called myself a huge Kanye fan. That has changed. I no longer view him creatively in the same light, nor do I see him as the innovator I once did. But that does not erase the brilliance of the music itself. What he created can ... read more

Stevie Wonder - As

you could tell me that there will never be a song as good as this song, and I'll believe you. Truly a song that is greater than life itself.

One of, if not The Greatest French House track of all time.

Brent Faiyaz - Icon

PEAK GASLIGHTER MUSIC ?

So today we’re reviewing *Icon* by Brent Faiyaz — an album I’ve been waiting on for quite some time. It was originally expected to drop toward the end of last year, but ended up getting delayed. After months of anticipation, we finally have it.

The rollout definitely built excitement. The project is executive-produced by Raphael Saadiq, which immediately raised my expectations. Add Mike Dean handling mixing and contributions, plus Chad Hugo, one-half ... read more

J. Cole - The Fall-Off
84

DOES HE FEEL LIKE MUHAMMED ALI RIGHT NOW?

J. Cole’s supposed final album, The Fall Off, arrives with an enormous amount of anticipation. The hype around this project has existed for a long time at least five years, arguably since The Off Season. What makes this release especially compelling is where Cole stands in his career. Unlike many rappers who see a decline in skill as they age, J. Cole has been on an upward trajectory, consistently sharpening his craft and edging closer to what ... read more

A$AP Rocky - Don't Be Dumb

THE FIRST HALF WAS ROCKY, BUT HE GOT IT BACK ASAP?

After eight years of waiting, I’ll be honest and say I never expected A$AP Rocky to release a flawless 10 out of 10 album. He’s not that kind of artist for me. His music is far more experimental, and that naturally leaves room for misses. Not everything is going to resonate with everyone, and that’s fine.

With those expectations going in, I’m actually quite satisfied with Don’t Be Dumb. At 17 tracks, the album ... read more

The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Electric Ladyland
93

I think I finally understand why Jimi Hendrix is so often called the greatest guitarist of all time. I haven’t listened to his other albums yet, but Electric Ladyland alone is enough for me to see why he’s held in such high regard.

The opening track, …And the Gods Made Love, works as a short intro rather than a full song. It mainly sets the tone for what’s to come: erratic, wavy, psychedelic, and raw, and it does that job well.

With Have You Ever Been (To Electric ... read more

Jeff Buckley - Grace
95

WHAT IS LIFE REALLY?

Mojo Pin opens the album in a very cinematic way. There’s a rocky core to the instrumental, mixed with more classical elements, and as an experience, it’s genuinely good. That said, on a first listen, it didn’t fully stick with me.

The title track, Grace, shifts the mood completely. It’s much softer and more comforting, it feels like a warm blanket on a winter night. Simple, gentle, and pretty effective.

Last Goodbye was the first track that ... read more

Car Seat Headrest - Teens of Denial

HOL UP THIS IS FIRE WTF?!!

Honestly, they sound like a somber version of a mix between The Strokes and Fleetwood Mac, and that's a good thing, cuz i used to think it was impossible to imitate Julian Casablancas. Meet Will Toledo.

Fav: The Ballad of the Costa Concordia, Vincent, Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales
Meh: Not What I Needed

King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King
98

IS IT THE GREATEST PSYCH ROCK ALBUM OF ALL TIME?

Christmas hit special this year. That's all I gotta say.

Fav: The Court of the Crimson King (Including "The Return of the Fire Witch" and "The Dance of the Puppets"), Epitaph (Including "March for No Reason" and "Tomorrow and Tomorrow"), 21st Century Schizoid Man (Including "Mirrors")
Meh:

John Lennon & Yoko Ono - Double Fantasy
80

YOKO DIDN'T SPLIT THE BEATLES.

But fr tho, like, they cooked with this album. Yoko has the ability to executively produce an album very well, which I think is very impressive, and John is well........John. 45 years ago, this album came out. Mad.

Fav: I'm Losing You, Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)
Meh: Give Me Something

Yuno Miles - ALBUM
20

He's done it. The worst I've listened to so far.

I do think he can go worse. The boy has a serious skill to shit on every beat

Pink Floyd - Animals
92

ITS BEEN A WHILE.

Rough weeks, but I'm glad I came to review this album, very heavy on psych rock, and kinda makes you float in a very chilly breeze.

Kind of reminds me of Haruki Murakami's A Wild Sheep Chase.

Fav: Dogs, Pigs (Three Different Ones)
Meh:

Stevie Wonder - Tribute to Uncle Ray

IT"S SOMETHING.......

I've had a long week and coming to this album at the end of the week, was not great. Kinda mid I wont lie.

Fav: My Baby's Gone
Meh: Don't You Know, Mary Ann

Stevie Wonder - The Jazz Soul of Little Stevie

BRO, IF MY PARENTS KNEW A 12-YEAR-OLD MADE THIS - I WOULD'VE BEEN SOOOO COOKED.

If a 12-year-old made this, are we really surprised that Stevie turned out to be the legend that he is?

Fav: Fingertips, Bam, Some Other Time
Meh: Wondering

ROSALÍA - LUX
91

(to my friends) YOU ALL LAUGHED AT ME WHEN I SAID I FW ROSALIA, WELL WHO'S LAUGHING NOW?

After first listen, might I say this just might be the album of the year, lads. Rosalia is literally so artistic that people do not resonate, but they thought the language barrier was the issue. It's even more hilarious now for the monolingual community cuz she speaks in more than 10 languages in this one. Ya'll just don't fuck with avant-garde like I do.

Fav: Mio Cristo Piange ... read more
