the instrumentation is so lush and grand that it almost takes away from john's songwriting. still, it's solid and i hope they can keep this momentum up
i remember really digging this when it came out, but it's just fine in retrospect
i usually don't care about the "instrumentation" of a mountain goats record, they have proven time and time again that their songs shine even with bare-bones or subpar instrumentation, but daaaamn this album makes me sleepy.
a personal favorite of mine. i think this has some of JD's funniest lyrics, it is everything I want a modern mountain goats record to be
