Drake - ICEMAN
47

The whole album just takes a nose dive the entire time. Its like Drake runs out of things to say and his energy runs out and just relies on the most brain dead flows more and more as it goes on. The album is CARRIED HARD by the production. Way too many petty lyrics about drama and issues he has with other people.

I guess maybe he doesn't understand that the biggest flex an artist can have is not making good disses but making better music than anyone else, that's the shit that makes ... read more

Snot - Get Some

Very good energy, kept up throughout. Lynn Strait is actually an insanely skilled vocalist. He does, like, Meshuggah levels of harshness in his vocals and yet he sings like a thousand words a second keeping up the energy. He is pretty dynamic too with the amount of vocal distortion and fry he does. Instrumentals are also very good, they have some stand out pockets here and there, especially the bass and gutars.
Over all, the tracks can start sounding similar on the latter half and I think some ... read more

Fabiano do Nascimento - Vila

I feel like orchestras get extra points just for sounding cool cause in reality this orchestra didn't do enough to warrant this score. The orchestral side of things is bare bones, the guitar is pretty good at times. Overall it was a nice listen but lacked in terms of song writing.

La Estrategia del Caracol - El Hambre y las Ganas de Comer
85

This landed pretty well with me. I think as the album goes on, the more interesting writing decisions start shining through and in turn the album ends very nicely.

concealer. - This Room Could Be Heaven.
79

Heavy and fun, but ultimately a bit too generic for it to get to the 80s for me.

Angine de Poitrine - Vol.II
76

It has fun ideas, but the progression of almost every song is pretty predictable. Build around one riff or idea and just make it more and more intense as the song goes on. Cool performances, but no sort of atmosphere or "vibe" or aesthetic, just kind of two dudes jamming. Also I was expecting this to be weirder considering online discourse about this band and some clips I've seen.

Rainbow - Rising
87

The track ratings are about right. Tracks 2-4, as fun as they are drag down the overall rating a bit as they are the more generic tracks. The rest of the album however is full of energy, amazing performances from all members, and the guitar solos are insane. Stargazer might be one of the quickest additions into my 10/10 playlist, I didn't even let the song end when I added it.

heavensouls - westside trapped
60

This did not connect with me at all. I get the appeal, and it certainly does not sound bad. I don't know if it's the sound collage approach or what but it just felt like a bunch of ideas put together with no real vision. There is a sense of progression especially with the last two songs, but they felt progressive in the sense that the artist was aware how progressive music is supposed to sound like rather than the structure coming from some sort of artistic vision or cohesion. At best ... read more

SAULT - Chapter 1

Very repetitive. Makes you wonder why make this at all if they were so devoid of ideas.

Tom Felton - ORaNgE
24

Nothing about this is offensively bad, but there is basically 0 redeeming qualities to this.

The Kid LAROI - BEFORE I FORGET
51

Good production, but no character. Also laughably repetitive subject matter tackled in the same way over and over again at every track.

Murmuüre - Murmuüre
79

On first listen its a cool ambient listen but lacks some sort of cohesion or vision or structure. I didn't really know what I was supposed to feel other than just pass the time hearing some cool sounds and some head nod-able drum pattern here and there.

Dave - The Boy Who Played the Harp
79

As whole, great execution but for the most part nothing stood out too much. I think the lyricism had good story telling but might be a bit on the nose and self centered (not in a bad way, just as the focus for a lot of the lyrics) for my personal liking. Over all though pretty good considering I didn't even know who this was, caught me by surprise.
I will say Fairchild was really well done though.

Ren - Hi Ren
NR

This song has gotten so much glaze on YouTube a while back. Its really annoying and on the nose. People will call this a genuine piece of art. But I personally think it reveals a lot about people when someone needs a song to be so to the point and obvious for them to finally connect with music on a deeper level. It's so on the nose, he finishes the song with a monologue about what the song he just sang was about. I wouldn't even call it a poem, he was just staring at the camera and ... read more

The Cure - Wish
91

While this album partially gives up The Cure's colder and more gothic sounds and aesthetic from the 80's, Robert Smith's music writing skills are still apparent. It's some of their more commercial and accessible music, and yet it still has that emotional and creative sincerity, which is something I'll always love about The Cure and about Robert Smith's lyricism and singing.

The Necks - Disquiet
80

This is definitely the type of album to put on in the background. It is very meditative and not memorable at all especially since it does not try to be. I think it full fills its purpose pretty well and I don't see how you can do much better than this without changing the entire approach of the music.

Don Caballero - What Burns Never Returns
92

Weirdly underrated in this site. This album is unique and ahead of its time. It can definitely sound like random noises to some people, but honestly the more I listen to it the more I see the vision. Its about feel, not conventional grooves and melodies. Its about pockets of ideas and then moving on to the next while still keeping the same mood.

I think some of these songs suffer from these completely different sounding sections because you could go from a section you really like to one you ... read more

YHWH Nailgun - 45 Pounds
89

Very cool and interesting vibe. I look forward to their future project I think this first one shows what they are capable of with quick ideas. But more developed tracks from these guys could lead to some very surreal soundscapes and atmosphere I look forward to.

The Hives - The Hives Forever Forever The Hives
65

There is pockets that work but at times the sound and writing lacked personality and sounded fairly generic. The lyrics were also not very good for the most part. Maybe if I liked the vocalist more it would move up to a green rating but over all this album is just kind of ok.

Earl Sweatshirt - Live Laugh Love
86

This is essentially just a happy version of some rap songs. Its tight, some great production, and earls rapping is unfocused in a way that comes off as a stream of consciousness, which might not be for everyone but I like the authentic feeling about it. Like someone is just going over their feelings while making it rhyme without bothering with the flow too much. Which actually kind of fits with the production style of the album, taking away emphasis from drums lets his flow be whatever it ends ... read more
