Björk is one of the most unique artists I’ve ever heard, bringing heavy avant-garde songwriting that also appeals to pop and electronic backgrounds, and executing it with some of the most emotionally intense vocal performances I have ever heard (especially on 5 Years and Pluto). The first full Neo-Soul project I’ve ever heard and hopefully not the last. Erykah Badu proves time and time again she has the vocal talents to compete with the best in the genre, and this album is full of mellow and addicting grooves. My biggest issue is that it does feel slightly bloated especially with the several alternate versions and 58 minute run-time but individually there are no bad tracks. Taking nothing away from the song, The Mollusk has a lot more depth than just being the album with Ocean Man on it. This is a project that doesn’t make sense until several listens in, a swirling concept album with psychedelic rock contrasted with satire and the stylings of a band trying to have fun with their art. Arcade Fire makes its comeback with this album. It isn't a perfect piece, but it still has its great moments. As always, Arcade Fire takes influence from other genres to augment its exciting chamber pop sound, especially on some of the funkier tracks like Unconditional II or Age of Anxiety. A masterpiece in modern rap/hip hop music. Kendrick brings us through an immersive experience regarding Kendrick's therapy in getting through the trauma of his past. Kendrick deals with intense themes such as abuse, racism, and grief in personal and interesting ways that makes it entertaining and emotional at the same time. The track list is full of both fun to listen to and heart-ripping songs that never feels dull. Proof that Kendrick is still on his game even after the long hiatus.
