on their sophomore album, maja og de sarte sjaele have really mastered their genre and created a solid body of work with very few lulls or skips. this is great easy listening and definitely essential listening for enjoyers of indie music
a very pleasant listen, nothing outright bad (although i certainly disliked the b-52s feature) but i'll only be revisiting "pursuit of happiness" when i am, in fact, in pursuit of happiness
well contrary to most people's opinions on this album, i found disc 2 a much more enjoyable experience and think joji excels with shorter songs. "glimpse of us" is perfectly ok but overrated and disc 1 is far too slow in my opinion. this is overall a mixed bag.
you know, i heard the first few songs and thought "wow, this is quite nice. maybe it's not the kind of music i'd put on, but it's nice". but by the end i was struggling to keep my eyes open - there's little variety sonically and it feels so monotone. so while it's respectable and i can't fault any song individually... it just put me in a very lethargic state
just gets better and better with every track. an instant favourite and classic, despite a lull in the middle of the record. fiona apple is a one of a kind artist truly.
the title track is the star here. the rest of the songs are filler af and do absolutely nothing new.
very very very solid pop record through and through - you don't need to read into it much, but when you do there's enough lyrical nuance for you to chew on regardless. the highlights (mostly the singles) will definitely be going into my playlists.
album of the year as expected. every track is impeccably produced, every song has her usual air-tight songwriting chops and jack antonoff... marry me
nothing i would go back and listen to, but oh my god this deserves the high rating. i was on the floor devastated by every track on this album and it is just so jam-packed with heartbreaking melodies, intense imagery and motifs and powerful vocal delivery. not aoty for me but so good.
feels like a collection of interludes. the vocal production is pretty bad but the rest is ok.
criminally underrated wtf i love every track's production and im obsessed with 5/7 of the songs
TL;DR: yeah it was that bad
anger issues: 21
the way she rhymed issues with issues with issues with issues
sex with me: 6
i didnt think it would be that bad but the chorus is the most annoying shit ive ever heard
1-800-miss-ur-guts: 2
so inauthentic like theres nothing original here either
b.f.f: 4
yeahhh we r 2 kool 4 skool xDDDDD h4yl 5atan
i'd rather die: 16
i mean this is kinda iconic now
puke & rally: 5
not the "shake our assy" i laughed so hard
TL;DR: as you can see i really rate the individual songs on here but idk if this album's hitting the same as the rest of fiona's discography... will edit the rating as i see fit but we will see once i have a few more listens to decode fiona's poetic writing
every single night: 86
so much wonderful imagery on every single line, not to mention the hook is kinda cultish and i love it.
daredevil: 88
the frantic background noises are giving 'fast as you can' and it's stunning, especially with the ... read more
TL;DR: i was so worried for the music industry considering all the 2022 albums ive reviewed have been on a scale of "pretty good" to "downright awful". but this is literally amazing.
minor feelings: 89
she knew how many people would just die hearing the lyrics to this for the first time. this is magical.
hold the girl: 81
not what i expected after such a dramatic opener, but this is pretty cool and i love the instrumentation.
this hell: 96
pop perfection.

TL;DR: yeah, sure, i understand why this is her worst rated especially with the relentless hype imposed onto the release of this (and subsequent disappointment), but at the end of the day it's got some bangers and still has no weak points writing-wise.
extraordinary machine: 62
underwhelming start. quite nice but forgot quite quickly
get him back: 87
very funky and a return to form. the previous track got me worried but this definitely shows that she's still got it

TL;DR: well... tidal was my first exposure to fiona and may always have a place in my heart but i completely understand people heralding this as her best work. from track 1 to track 10 it is nonstop impeccable instrumentals with hard-hitting lyrics, even for the songs i would cut like "paper bag" and "i know". so, so, SO well done.
on the bound: 90
honestly the only complaint i have about this song is the chorus being so simple and repetitive, but at the end of the day it ... read more
