Surprisingly enough, I didn't find out about this band from anime first. Now I did find out about it because I put a bunch of anime OPs in a Spotify playlist and they recommended songs from this album, but that's beside the point. I don't know what to say short of J-rock just hits different. I love AKG's older work mainly because the lead singer Masafumi Gotoh's voice is so much more raw compared to today. Not to say that he's a worse singer now, just that the grime to had to his voice in his ... read more
My first Veltpunch album. Love their aggression and composition. Easy reccomendation.
Is it supposed to loop? Because it doesn't do so very well. Otherwise unremarkable. Even when TYNAN is uninteresting he's interesting.
I'm never going to forgive the EDM community for sleeping on Dr.Ozi man...
Get real. Get real is kino. That's all I have to say on the singles front.
So the megacollab. As of now, it's the last one ever done by disciple. I get the feeling that they realized that this format had a shelf life after this, and it's not hard to see why. Get Lemon is a novelty, We Don't Play is the concept done to as close to perfection as you can reasonably get, and How We Roll is the concept on its last legs. The live streams they did for the mega collabs show off versions and Ideas for ... read more
Nice songs and nice artwork, but it doesn't live up to the hype and raw energy of Alliance complications past.
Disciple Alliance Vol.5 is a very unique album.
Two words. Collab. Album.
The combination of artists on this thing is absurd. Have you ever wanted to hear Virtual Riot's sound design combined with Infekts Riddim sensibilities? Have you ever wondered how Fox Stevenson's uncanny ability to write catchy melodies would clash with Barely Alives distorted sound? Have you ever wondered how Eliminate's trappy approach would clash with a heavier artist such as Phaseone? It's all hear, and it's all ... read more
On the one hand, this is where my nostalgia for Marshmello dies. Aside from the Subtronics, PEEKABOO, Eptic, and TroyBoi collaborations, this album doesn't do much of anything for me. The Nitti Gritti collab is horrendous, and everything else is just whatever.
On the other hand, this album gave Subtronics, PEEKABOO, Eptic, and TroyBoi Grammies which makes the basshead in me happy.
So I'll just split the diff.
Just like Joytime 2, I can't disagree with the score that much, but this album is nostalgic for me (or at least a couple of songs on it are). Mainly the collaborations with dubstep artists TYNAN, Crankdat, and Slushii. This album came around the time for me when I was diving into dubstep and the dubstep collaborations hit me like crack. This album is partially the reason why I even know who TYNAN and Crankdat are so I can't hate it that much.
Other than that, most of the non-Dubstep affairs in ... read more
