not sure what i was expecting after seventeen bad deluxes and somehow more twitter rants but here we are. babygirl is maybe the worst, most disingenuous song i've heard all year apart from dabo's 'bleed.' putting a recycled rippity rap flow on top of a type of beat that he's never used before does not make this new. songs like 'head' are disjointed and pointless, they're just truly filler and only there for him to extend the runtime. the vocal mixing on ... read more
this album is one big blur of color. that is the only way i can describe it because it did not feel like every song was separate but not in the sense of it being repetitive. it feels like one giant, dynamic blur of color. i have no other ways to describe it because that is how it is.
genuinely an excellent body of work. a lot of the problems seen in his earlier work are smoothed out, and some of the previous issues are incorporated better and turn into upsides rather than issues. it's a true 180 from his previous work quality wise and conceptually it's excellent too.
pretty... nondescript? i'd expect to like something like this considering how much i like electropop but it's just... very derivative. while the music is pretty decent and does the job, it's kind of just another helping of electropop that's been heard many times even inside the mainstream. i thought start over was an excellent song though. otherwise, pretty nondescript but decent.
best song: start over
worst song: copycat
