It's nice, don't get me wrong, but it's just not really that exciting. It's pretty bland at times and these songs just completely drag on, pretty much all of these songs run over five minutes and it's really exhausting. I also am not personally interested in the shift from making great guitar music to making textural dream pop which, yes, has guitars, but is mainly focused on layering reverbs and delays on a relatively simple guitar part. That being said, the drums are ... read more
Super good, It's a pretty common claim to hear Nujabes proclaimed as the best producer of all time and there's definitely a reason for that. It can get a little redundant by the end and the guest rappers aren't to the same standard as the beats, but it's still great as a whole.
I'm pretty indifferent. I like Yet to Fail and Cat On a Windowsill, but nothing else really gained my interest. The influences here are super obvious, and while that's fine, there's so many other Lo-Fi bedroom bands with the same style influences that I just feel bored listening to this most of the time.
Cool enough, but not too distant from LP1. It kind of falls into the (non-literal) uncanny valley of things with it simultaneously being too close to the original album to feel distinct but too distant from the original with the different vocal style and larger arrangments. It's cool, but I probably wouldn't relisten to most of these versions.
Nothing crazy, but it's a cool batch of songs with a decent performance. The mix and production is kind of boring in my opinion, but besides that it's fine. I like the choir on the last song.
The best songs from LP3 and probably the best American Football song in general in one, solid, live performance. Stay Home going into The One With The Wurlitzer is a great choice and definitely provides a tonal and sonic throughline between LP1 and 3. Still not crazy on the vocals, but they're mostly fine and everything else outweighs my grudge with that.
I like the opener, but besides that it's super boring. This sound is definitely starting to get stale, and I can't say I even really remember anything specific from the album. The softer and more emotional moments just kind of feel forced, and the louder moments feel kind of tacky.
Not a good record, even if it has some fine moments. The best moments on here feel like the most mediocre moments on the average Ween project, and I think that says a lot. Most of this is just super boring and or bad, super bad ending to a pretty solid and definitely interesting discography.
A lot better than I was expecting, honestly. I feel like a lot of LP2 was dedicated to trying to make the same general sound and vibe the band had on their debut work with their new production and maturity, which made for a kind of awkward experience. This album feels like the band actually understands how to cater to their strengths, the instrumentals on here are back from just being good to amazing. I'm still not completely sold on the vocals or lyrics, but both substantially improve and ... read more
Really cool. I love how dense everything is, I think the instrumentals alone make this EP amazing. I also really enjoyed the super auto-tuned vocals which do a very nice job of actually adding to the sound instead of detracting. I think that it's not necessarily a sound I'm super familiar with or one I'm crazy about it, but this is a great execution and assumedly something I'll come back to.
Very interesting, but honestly it's not my thing. I'm more into the slowly changing style of ambient than this kind of stagnant sound. It is cool and the soundscapes are nice, but I would be lying if I said that they didn't all entirely blend together.
The instrumentals are still great, obviously, don't let my score imply that they aren't. I don't think they're to par with LP1 but that isn't saying too much as American Football's debut may have some of my favorite instrumental work ever. This thing really falls apart with everything else; the production, vocals, and lyrics are all pretty bad. The production, the least offensive thing out of that list, is just too overblown for my taste. LP1 could sound big but it ... read more
Genuinely, and with no exaggeration, the worst album I've ever heard. This guy is a friend of a friend who's became famous among people I know, and even though I listened to this with friends I literally can't even excuse it as just being funny. I don't think it's an abomination, but It's just not good. I think there's moments of vaguely interesting ideas, but the fact that both the guitar and vocals are so painfully out of tune just sets up everything to be ... read more
Probably the worst wingdings release? It's not bad, it's actually fairly good, I just wouldn't say it does anything new for the wingdings alias nor are the beats themselves the most interesting out of the series. Cool EP, Cool artist, but nothing too memorable.
Probably my favorite Wingdings release so far, my favorites by Four Tet under this alias have been the ones that combine really interesting rhythmic elements with super glossy and beautiful music on top, which is what this is. I only rate it relatively low because it's still really limited in both it's scope and sound, if I'm being honest even though both songs are good they're really similar.
A little less memorable than the already unmemorable project I've heard under the Wingdings alias. I really like the ambient vibe mixed with these kind of uncomfortable rhythms on the opener, so that's the main standout, but I can't say I remember anything else beyond that.
Very nice, but nothing substantial. The second song is pretty great and everything else is of a similar style just slightly less enjoyable. Not too much to say, but it's cool.
Extremely cool, I wasn't really sure what to expect but this is a really great album. It's not always consistent, some songs don't work as well for me, but songs like Hands, Unspoken, As Serious As Your Life, and Slow Jam are genuinely masterpieces in sampling and flipping. Very, very cool.
Just kind of boring, it doesn't really have any of the later elements that make the band fun. It's not bad but none of these songs really grip me, and the lack of real lyrics and the way these all of these songs just drag for way too long makes it significantly less enjoyable, even when ignoring that the music itself is a notable downgrade.
Another solid album from MOTFD, but definitely not to the same highs as the previous two. The distortion is mildly turned down on this record and energy is a lot less aggressive and noisy than on their debut and sophomore efforts. That's not to say those sounds are absent from the tracklist, but the singer's melodies take a significantly more important stance with the music being a little less strong than their previous work.
