Has some great standouts but the rest of the album is very slept on. Title track has obviously one of the most beautiful concepts in a rap song. But idk why people be sleeping on neighbors. This song is a storytelling masterpiece on racial profiling and his resigned tone on the last lyrics (so much for integration/dont know what i was thinkin) is heartbreaking. Imo, this song is on par with title track and is deserving of a 94-96. Rest of the album is also great.
Best: Title track, Neighbors, ... read more
Listened to this on a plane and was half asleep so i dont remember much. The one thing i do remember is the back half of the album is not the best.
Best: My Philosphy, Ya slippin, Illegal business
Worst: t'cha t'cha
Yes its a classic, yes its massively influential, but outside of the three top rated tracks, the album is just ok.
Best: Title track, i aint no joke, I know you got soul
Worst: Chinese arithmetic
Solid textbook NY boom bap. One of my biggest complaints is that some of the songs like 9mm goes bang didnt have the best lyricism, while other tracks show they are capable of some good bars.
Best: South Bronx, Poetry, Remix for P is free, Criminal Minded
Worst: Super hoe
I dont know much about music and genres and all that, but how is this not rock rap. This is the first and only time i have suggested a genre. Anyways, I listened to this because after 5 minutes of research, I crowned this the beginning of the golden age of east coast boom bap and affiliated genres, and i will now try to listen to every single good album from this period. Anyways, i liked the conscious lyrics and rock influences, it was pretty unique from anything i have listened to ... read more
He went platinum with no features. End of review.
Best: Wet Dreamz, Love Yourz, 03 adolescence, No Role Modelz
Worst: Hello
Wasnt huge on this one but it had the occasional hit.
Best: Outta town shit, Alex (stolen script), Ghost is back
Worst: Greedy bitches
Great storytelling and rhymes on this one. Crazy disparity between ratings for J dilla's "One for Ghost" (88 as of rn) and Whip you with a Strap (79), the song that uses the beat. Wish that song got more love.
Best: Shakey dog, RAGU, Whip you with a strap, The Champ, 9 milli bros
Worst: Barbershop, beauty jackson
Definitely deserves the must listen but the track ratings are very inflated.
Best: 100 bricks, ason jones, Black Mozart, New Wu
Worst: Have Mercy, Catalina
I feel like an unc but this might be a little too experimental for me.
Best: GGG, In My Town, Double Trio 2
Worst: Dead Weight
First Cole album and i see what the hype is about. Overall solid album that really plays to his strengths. Some of the track ratings are way too low though.
Best: The Fall Off is inevitable, SAFETY, 39 intro, The Villest
Worst: Old dog, Only you
I think this album is very good.
Best: Lover you should've come over, So real, Last goodbye, Grace
Worst: Corpus christi carol
I feel kinda basic for giving this a 90 but whatever its my rating and my review.
Best: Living for the city, hes Misstra know it all, visions, Higher Ground
Worst: Jesus children of america
Most songs are solid but theres a few misses
Best: Love, E=mc2, so Far to go
Worst: Geek down, jungle love
Didnt have insanely high hopes for this one because I assumed an 8 year break would not be helping at all. I expected something similar to Testing but was pleasantly surprised by the quality.
Best: Helicopter, Stole Ya Flow, no trespassing, Title track, Fish n Steak
Worst: Playa
Gives me nostalgia. Bacc is lowk overhated.
Best: Drugs You Should Try It
