Asian Glow - IIIVIII
NR

My personal favourite release by Asian Glow so far. His experimentation with a heavy sound has really paid off and it makes for an intense and fun EP. Cans in Vain feels like an amazing closer with its softer styling and its anthemic ending. If I knew how to speak in Korean I would gladly scream sing along with the ending. Overall I hope to hear more like this from Asian Glow as it is some of my favourite writing of his.

Cindy Lee - Diamond Jubilee
NR

Wow! This album is such a lovely journey. It feels like a greatest hits collection of a long lost artist from the 1960s. I wish I could write a 'good' review of this album, whatever that would mean. But I don't think I can. It is hard for me to quantify or grade this. It is just simply lovely. I feel pride listening to this as Canadian art is seldom thought about but this album feels so Canadian to me. It captures the emptiness of the prairies, the liveliness of the GTA and the ... read more

Ring Of Tamyrlin - The Black Fever
NR

A far less interesting project then Ring of Tamyrlin's first release. Sometimes it felt like there were errors in the actual recording which took me out of the experience greatly. Dim's other works are very good so its a little shocking how hit or miss this release was.

Ring Of Tamyrlin - Pattern In The Shadow
NR

Ring Of Tamyrlin's debut album, a strong and dense dungeon synth epic that flows along like a river.
It is music I enjoy studying too as it is creates a very thick ambience that the mind can get lost in.

NR

A collection of lo-fi hiphop music. The beats are good and the various instrumental samples are also enjoyable. Sadly, I found every track to have the exact same flow --all starting with the instrumental sample before going into the main beat-- which really killed the vibes for me as it started feeling very samey.

Aooo - Aooo
NR

A fun pop-punk j-rock album. The songs are short, catch, and draw you into them. Some tracks transition in such interesting ways that keeps your head bobbing once a song has ended. The majority of this album is high energy and really hyped me up but even in the slower songs were really enjoyable and left me wanting more.

Bodikhuu - Welcome to Ulaanbaatar
NR

A truly fantastic listen. Bodikhuu is a name most people have probably never heard of. However, he is quite the musician. Although, as of this date, this is the only release I have listened to by him I must say, it is really really good. It is a shame that so many fantastic and talented musicians do not get noticed these days. In this album he has crafted an amazing instrumental hiphop collection where he has primarily sampled music from Mongolia. The level of quality which these beats have is ... read more

Della Zyr - 비타민과 우려 Vitamins and Apprehension
NR

An album that begs its listeners to keep going and to keeping putting one foot in front of the other. It has short songs that feel like epics and long songs that barely feel long enough. This album has no wasted space in its track list. There are many lyrics on this project that are touching but by far my favourite one is "I want to grow old" which I find to be such a strong deceleration against the youthful nihilism of our days.
I too want to grow old and even though this life is ... read more

Della Zyr - 모호함 속의 너 Nebulous You
NR

An album that is slowly becoming a personal favourite. It is sweet and catchy and is imbued with an ever present melancholy. However within the sweeping ambient movements covered in sadness there is a lot of hope. Maybe I like this album because it sounds both happy and sad. It hurts for the past and hopes for the future, it is a project that reminds you that you have survived everything you have been through up to this point and can keep surviving for the future.

PinkPantheress - to hell with it
NR

This mixtape is great, it seamlessly combines Drum and Bass with catchy bedroom pop melodies. Although her newer projects are far more well known and to a degree better, this one is by far my favourite. It stands tall on its own and feels both experimental and intimate at the same time, like a friend showing you some art they made. The songs here are short, very short, and I think that's part of the charm for me.

DJ Rozwell - None of This Is Real Expansion Pack: Expert Set
NR

With this expansion pack DJ Rozwell brings us back into the dungeon. Although, still weaker then the original this project features heavier instrumentation as well as a multitude of guest artists which shake up the track list. I found myself enjoying the tracks by Ash Vestal the most as they seemed to have a very fresh and memorable take on the Rozwell style. When compared to the other Expansion Packs Rozwell has put out, this one is easily the strongest and an enjoyable listen all the way ... read more

DJ Rozwell - NONE OF THIS IS REAL EXPANSION PACK: SCARE TACTICS
NR

I really liked this one, although I do not know exactly where it fits in the NONE OF THIS IS REAL canon but none-the-less I really enjoyed it. Unlike the original this album feels nothing like diving throughout dungeons and mystic forests. Instead DJ Rozwell gives us an exploration of the regular forests (quite a scary thing) and dungeons (basements). It is far from bad but I do not know if it will have the same staying power as the original.

DJ Rozwell - NONE OF THIS IS REAL EXPANSION PACK: GALACTIC SURVEY
NR

The ambient sibling to DJ Rozwell's NONE OF THIS IS REAL is a little disappointing. I kind of wish DJ Rozwell stuck more to his bread and butter but I always appreciate it when an artist goes outside of their comfort zone. Although this project is not wholesale bad it is far from being consistent. Many tracks are just way better then others and the main draw back is I honestly could not tell you which tracks are good. I would simply just advise you listen to the other NONE OF THIS IS REAL ... read more

shaskee - make.sum.happen.
NR

A really lovely beat tape by my friend Samson. It reminds me a lot of Tomppabeats early works with its consistent sampling and side-chained grooves that get your head naturally nodding back and forth. My favourite track is by far number 19. timeandtime but some other standouts are moveinsilence, phil, and eric. Its a really nice collection of beats perfect for late night studies.

Sevish - Rhythm and Xen
NR

I enjoyed the compositions and musical elements but beyond that I found the beats rather dull. I do not know why but I did not really emotionally attach to this album but it may be something that will touch you. So for that I would say check it out :D

Locust Toybox - Scribble Beats
NR

This album feels very nostalgic. Although, I never grew up using newgrounds its influences permeated my childhood. Days playing castle crashers with friends, watching edd's world or tom ska together, the binding of isaac, meat boy, castle crashing the beard. This music is reminiscent of that time, it has jumping and acoustic beats, both peaceful and goofy at the same time. It is a reminder of the first music I fell in love with and for that it will have a special place in my heart. <3

Various Artists - Yellow Loveless
NR

A Japanese cover album of My Bloody Valentine's Loveless. Most of these covers are okay at best, however some really stand out like Tokyo Shoegazer's cover of Only Shallow and Shonen Knife's cover of When You Sleep.

椎名林檎 [Ringo Sheena] - 勝訴ストリップ [Winning Strip]
NR

I am not really sure how to feel about this release. After listening to it 3 or 4 times I feel like I have both something and nothing to say about it. It is very interesting and quite captivating and despite returning to it time and time again it is very hard for me to simply say whether I like it or not. It is catchy and almost addicting to listen to, it is musically sweet and fantastic J-rock. Maybe J-rocks not for me I do not know. I would still heavy recommend this album as it is ... read more

Throbbing Gristle - 20 Jazz Funk Greats
NR

No jazz, no funk, but certainly great. This album feels very forward thinking and experimental. I found the whispery singing really interesting and it greatly juxtaposed the harsher electronic sounds prevalent on this album.

記號士 - Recorded Time
NR

A densely packed a heavy shoegaze record. This album has such a dark atmosphere rarely seen in more modern shoegaze releases and because of that it felt like a breath of fresh air. Despite being classified as a Dream Pop record there is really nothing dreamy or poppy on this album. It is chilling and empty with many songs not falling within a typical structure. Openings that drag like a knife and abyssal choruses that feel as if they consume the listener; this was an enjoyable listen overall. ... read more
