It's probably partly the nostalgia talking, but this album was kinda fire. Obviously it is not that unique, but very well produced and the melodies are beautiful. Production is strong as it should be on this kind of an album. It starts becoming quite repetetive but when every other track is an absolute classic it doesn't really matter that much.
The title track definitely has the most appeal in this album. At least give that one a try.
It's definitely not an exceptional or original album in terms of songwriting, but the production and atmosphere are great. There is usually a nice balance of catchy melodies and heaviness, although often the melodies are a bit too easy and not as imaginative as I had hoped. They could use some more melodic guitars. Overall, I still really enjoyed listening and it's not overly long.
Firstly I will just say I really like the production on the album, especially the drums are just perfect. The gothic rock aesthetic seen in the lyrics and musical elements is really cool to me and although I can see many people thinking it is cringe, I love it. The songs are really catchy. There were no bad songs, and no good songs. Overall pretty consistent but the song structures were incredibly boring. Many of the riffs sounded like I could have come up with them in my bedroom in like 5 minutes. Not really worth listening but didn't offend me.
I am disappointed.
The previous 3 albums from Soen have all been really nice to listen to, especially Lotus which is one of my favourite albums. Reliance is very different to those three: it just feels boring. There is nothing really going on. All the cool rhythms Soen used to have are nowhere to be seen.
The songs are all structured the same. Especially the drum parts are really unimaginative, it feels like half the songs just have a steady, alternating kick-snare pattern.
