this album is so perfect and crazy...I fall in love with her everytime I listen. Sometimes it'll be 8 years or so when last dusted off to listen to, but when I do I will have happy headphones thanking me for a grand re-visit.
Kinda like the arrangements and the direction to 'fuck' her sound up. Yes it needs editing. Yes it is somewhat immature. It is free. I edited it down to 16 songs and don't mind them coming up in my random mixes. Also, I hope she gets more serious (unlikely) and freaks out the world and goes bjork-like with her next album!! The b-side Flaming Lips beats with Miley is probably a one off record, and with no anticipation, it did what it did...SURPRISE!
Seeing the band live in Seattle a week before the album release boosted the score just a tad. I've been dying to here them, and welcome the new album with open arms (and ears). It may not be their best but there is plenty to replay on a long drive!! I hope Adam and Co. don't wait too long to record again.
Falling in love with album more than 10 years after it's release!! Downloaded more from this group and wondering why I have not heard of them and actually forgot how I came across them...
Sounds fresh to me and just love the dreamscape throughout. Most played album in 2015 so far....not bad for a 2003 release.
this one was the toughest record that finally got through to me. I've bought everything Bjork has made...love her live boxset, and thought her best three records were homogenic/Vespertine/\medulla. Then came the mediocrity and Vulnicura came fast with it's early release and I hated it. Three listens in it's first week of release and I had to stop. I couldn't listenanymore. But I also didn't want to review it yet. I waited two weeks and tried again, but I still didn't like what I heard. ... read more
Glad I read about this album, allowing me to go back and listen to their back catalogue as well. Pure heaven in a bottle 1 part Stereolab 1 part animal collective mixed with a batch of mbv.
I find Lana channeling El Perro Del Mar more and more....which is a good thing and more suitable to her style, but her voice is still not all there. Still needs more work on her voice than her image. Some songs run a little long and by track 7 she needs a change up song but it doesn't happen. I'm not complaining about the mood, that I like, it's just there needed to be a left turn somewhere....an interlude or short ambient piece...enough to take the dagger out of the sorrow, ... read more
I little disappointing lyrically and vocals are weaker than the debut from this group. The same build ups can be heard from song to song.
Not as good as the reviews suggest. Artistically I understand why the reviews are high, but the concept and the duo's past musical interests, don't interest me the same way.
After a few more listens, I bumped up the score. Very nice set up and songflow, with some comparisons with The National being easily recognized but differing with more experimental structure which ends up being exciting and wanting more.
After rating this lower than even I expected, I intended to leave it for awhile and come back to it, after quite uneven thoughts during the first few months it came out. And, still knowing that Full of Fire is my fav song of the year, my rating is exactly the same, as the strong start followed by the bold, yet interesting drone songs and weak ending still have me confused by it's very high rating and reviews. If the 19 minute middle was 12 minutes and one weak song left off it would be ... read more
A little too same (y) for me. First couple of listens were interesting but got a touch boring. Third listening I could compare to Champion, but with more organic weaving...but I can only listen to two Champion tracks without starting to snooze. Later tracks are weak but strongest songs are the 1st and last, Ljoss and Friend, you Will Never Learn.
The song The Weight of Gold could've been done better in the hands (or voice) of David Lynch.
After buying this the day it came out and being afraid to play it....I had only listened once....but have recently come backto it with open arms after watching them on itunes free concert series. Great new sounds and emotional range...So far topping James Blake for AOTY, but after hearing Arcade Fire's new song...impatiently waiting!
I thank the movie Drive and it's sdtrk to allow me to track this collection down and my new love for the Chromatics.
The best album since 2000's PJ Harvey...stories from the city, stories from the sea. Instant classic.
So far, rotating in my top 3 of 2013. Love the overall flow from song to songand title track one of my favs of the year
