We all know the initial reception of the album. I am glad to see that people have come around to it. It was ahead of its time no doubt.
One of my favorite samples Kanye has ever used and it had to be the snippet in the middle of On Sight, sigh. Anyway, it is impressive how much a 10 track album can accomplish. New Slaves, BOTL, and Bound 2 being ranked extremely high on my fav Kanye tracks of all time. As mentioned in my Graduation review, I love West at his most boastful/cocky and this is ... read more
[MUST LISTEN] There's not much I can say about this project that hasn't been said before, it is damn near perfect. Personally, it is my favorite out of all his albums, I am sure that's something I share with many Kanye fans. The maximalist approach to the production makes this feel grand. At a time when everybody seemed to have a negative connotation toward Mr. West, MBDTF was nothing short of a comeback story, releasing something so great that even those that hated him couldn't ignore it. [MUST LISTEN] If you found the shift in sound on Graduation to be too different from his first two works, this must be completely polarizing. Such a drastic change in artistry came as a result of Kanye's most difficult period, one that would revolutionize the mainstream hip-hop scene to what we see today. After Graduation, his mother, Donda West, passed away and his engagement with his then-fiancée was called off. What we get is cold and haunting instrumentals through the use of the 808 ... read more
The third and final installment of Kanye's College trilogy takes a completely different approach to sound and lyricism, does that take away from the appeal? Hell no. Coming back from a tour with U2, Kanye realizes he wants to make music more suited for stadiums, he does just that. Songs such as Stronger, Good Life, and Can't Tell Me Nothing, ooze nothing but confidence. By this time, it was the most egotistic we have seen Kanye and I absolutely love it. Along with the hypnotizing beat of ... read more
[MUST LISTEN] Only a year after his hugely successful debut, The College Dropout, Kanye delivers a sequel that is just as good, if not better, than its predecessor. Teaming up with Jon Brion, Kanye ups his production by mixing in his soulful sampling with orchestral sounds. It is nothing less than genius. From celebratory to heartfelt and everything in between, this album is jam-packed with nothing but classic instrumentals. Not only that but Kanye gives us even better verses and features ... read more
